Hey all,

I have two om617s, one in a running 1984 300D, and the other is going to be going into a Jeep.

I want to update the turbo from the stock unit; I'm not looking for anything crazy, just something that gets more power and uses more of what the engine has to offer, and is easy to install.
If it were possible to find a plug-and-play replacement, that would be my ideal choice, but I'm not sure if such exists with these old engines.

Many thanks for all input.

there's no real plug and play solution the closest would be sending your turbo to a rebuilder and swapping in a higher trim wheel. if however you are willing to do a little bit of work its not too hard to swap in some smaller modern turbos. im currently running a holset HE221W and even without any fuel increases it made noticeably more power. the MHI TD04HL-19T is another good one for a stock engine. both are t28 flange though so you need an adapter and a new oil feed line. if your interested in how much work it is you can look at my build thread. factor in though that im going much further so just swapping a turbo in and plumbing it would be significantly less work.

Nothing else really will work on the cold side, apart from upgrading the T3-45 to 60 trim or something.

I really like my HX30W from the few test runs I've done with it, spools like the T3 used to.

Funally enough my HX35 was virtually plug and play only needed to make an oil line and modify the intake manifold slightly I even made the factory exhaust fit, the oil return fitted exactly as the t3, couldn't believe my luck. Hx35 is way too big for factory fuel though. But there quite a few turbos out there with a t3 flange so the choice is big.

I used the Hx30w in my Jeep build, very happy with it.

I like my hx30 on stock fueling. Definetly wouldn't want any larger than 6cm housing though. And it is relatively plug and play. A little mod here and there but nothing crazy
