08-10-2017, 08:26 PM #1Hello forum. My 1998 e300 w210 om606 td wont crank over. Turn key and click. Good battery verified. My hunch is starter motor but dont want to throw money at car without being sure. Any suggestions to further diagnose?

1978 300D, 373,000km... OM617.912 with a Holset HX30W, 7.5mm IP, 711.113 5 speed (project car, 7 years off the road and counting ;/)
1977 250 270,000km (parts car)

Tap the solenoid with a hammer (tap not a whack lol) it might free it up

If you shift to N does it crank over? These w210's have a few issues from what I've read/experienced.
'98 E300 Turbo "Juliette" - Brabus wheels and almost all the options a w210 could have
'87 300D Turbo "Roxanne" - #22 head - 400E brakes - EGR Delete - 17" Staggered AMG 5 spoke rims from CLK500 - 5 Spd manual
2007 Chevy 2500HD CCSB Duramax with about 400-500 rwhp depending on the tune I use

Is it a click click click like battery is low or just one click that isn't too loud? Like a relay engaging.

08-11-2017, 09:40 PM #4Yes just one click like a relay. I heard the keys can wear out but i think mine is fine everything else electronic turns on with key. I guess ill have to take it out and bench test old fashioned way.

The EIS (electronic ignition switch) can go out and cause that exact symptom.

Anyone know where to find a workshop manual for this? I know there is an online version for the w124.

My 202 sometimes experiences this I cycle lock & unlock a few times when sat in the car once or twice and it cures it.
So my EIS is on it's way to being borked also.. Dam..
Installed:
OM606/722.6, big IC, W220 brakes.
Planned:
DIY manifold, compound, 722.6 controller, built IP.
[i]Less rust.. [/i]
you can reach the + terminal on the starter if you remove the inlet manifold.

08-20-2017, 08:16 PM #11Ok i will remove intake manifold tomorrow and jump solenoid. I checked all fuses, just replaced brake switch although i dont see how that could cause no start and also removed and inspected k40 chip and all is correct. Thank you guys i will let you know soon.
