where to find a good KKK K26?
where to find a good KKK K26?
where can i find a good condition or new KKK K26 turbo to replace my stock turbo in my 1980 300sd turbo diesel.
will this swap give a faster spool up and quicker acceleration down low?
it did on my w116 1980 300sd very noticeable I also had a free flow air filter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqdexqX0bhM
I got my k26 at a wrecking yard off a 1983-85??? w126 300sd
so this is a direct fit? any mods?
also all 1983-1985 300sd have the KKK K26 turbo?
thanks
No. The K26 you need was only used on the OM617.
Those used on Audi, Porsche and VW won't be bolt-on.
I've got one in my garage that is for sale. PM me if interested. It's in excellent condition.
So is this turbo giving you the same basic power, just earlier and with better response?
I know the K03 turbo is known to be supercharger-like in it's throttle response. Supposedly with the 1.8t VW it feels like you're driving a 6 stock, though I've never driven one before so I can't say. Zero lag but not that great on the top end.
If this gets halfway to VGT land for cheap and a bolt-on to boot, count me in...

Not quite halfway, but noticeable nonetheless.
The T3 is better if you want top-end power, the K26 gets inefficient pretty quick above 15psi, but it can still push 20psi.
What's stock, about ten psi?
I'd say the better response is probably worth the swap regardless...I like the idea of a medium-power but responsive motor more than a laggy one that screams at the top end...of course, both would be nice.
What does a good 'starter' VGT go for nowadays? Most common/cheapest?

The HE351Ve from the 07+ Dodge Cummins is very common and dirt cheap, but totally impractical for less than 300hp.

So I finally got the air filter housing off (don't have all of my tools) and lo and behold, the turbo that's on there is already a KKK...where is the model number at? It's an 83 300D. There was this wannabe cold air tubing glommed onto the stock filter housing, so it's possible that it was owned by an enthusiast.
Is there another stock turbo used on this engine that I could possibly mistake the K26 for?
ok so lets say i purchase the kkk k26 turbo to swap.
Will my car accelerate faster since it spool up quicker? even though it provides the same HP wouldnt the 0-60 time be quicker though if it spooled quicker???
also the cars top end is only 85mph on the cluster... and it does take some time getting there with 110hp in a 4000lb car .
so with the k26 turbo swap will my speed over 60mph be affected in how my car pulls above that?? or will this not matter at all? or is the top end only reffering to me doing over 100mph in the car?
It will accelerate noticeably faster it makes a lot of low end torque compared to the stock Garrett and top end is the same I would defiantly do it again!
it wont change the top speed that's related to gearing and rpm

Only the T3 and K26 were used on the 617.

i currently have the air research t3 in my 1980 turbo diesel and the pickup off the line is fairly horrible up until 25 mph where the turbo hits.
I have a chance to buy the KKK k26 since i want a direcet replacement turbo without modifyin anyting.
Is the K26 a better turbo and will it offer me increased acceleration over the T3.??
i have a good chance to buy a nice one but i dont wanna spend the money if its gonna be the same thing.
thanks
