OM 648 - Michael2006 - 08-17-2010

Hello,

i have read in majesty78 Thread from the OM 606/613. So i was on search about informations about the OM 648 DE 32 LA Engine on the W211 E320 cdi.

So my question is, is the OM 648 also so strong than as the OM 606/613 engine? How about the rev of this engines, how much could it go?

Thank you, Greetings Michael

Hello Michael,

generally you are a bit too modern with your CDI engine in this forum.
But in case it is the R6 and not the V6 320 CDI you are referring to I can tell you about my friend's 2005, chiptuned, all day as fast as possible with now almost 700.000 Km without any issues on the engine.
So the engine has to be reliable somehow.
A bigger turbo and better intercooler in combination with chiptuning were my thoughts before going into deep map modification for the injection or even injector modification.
Maybe some pure CDI guys could help better. In any case stay in contact with Alex, he also bought a 320 CDI and is looking for more power.

I love the 648 motor personally, even with just a chip it proves itself very strong and powerful. I can only imagine what kind of numbers this engine could put out with some serious investing. And I personally can vouch for the longevity of this motor.

RE: OM 648 - ForcedInduction - 08-17-2010

I know one person that has pulled 227hp out of his C200 CDI using a GT3276V, large intercooler and AMG injectors. That means you should be able to pull at least 350hp, but those AMG injectors aren't anything resembling cheap.

RE: OM 648 - majesty78 - 08-17-2010

Hy Michael, nice to meet you here on STD.com

If you find a competent injector guru, you may only have to change the nozzle tips of the injectors.

The ones from AMG CDI have the Number

ALLA156P1265+

The 197hp engine has

ALLA156P889

and the 204hp engine has

ALLA156P1107+

The ALLA stands for the nozzle type, 156 stands for the spray angle of 156 degrees, and the number after the "P" is the evolution history (nothing to do with the flow capability)

If you wait a little, I hope to get some high flow nozzles manufactured with even more flow capability than the AMG ones have.

Those will in any case be a lot cheaper than complete injectors.

You have a very good company for testing and calibration of Bosch injectors in Germany unless I dont know yet if they are able to do CR parts. I will ask them for that.

Regards, Alex

Ok thanks, that sounds better then i thougt first Smile What do you think about Water Methanol injection on this diesel engine. I also should go on a bigger exhaust, best without catalysator?

RE: OM 648 - tomnik - 08-18-2010

monitor EGTs! More fuel without changing the turbo will increase EGTs.
A less restrictive exhaust is always better. No sensors in the exhaust/cat/filter?

this was my question in the previous post. Maybe not EGTs but cat and/or filter sensors?
There are many sensors feeding the engine ECU. One signal out of range and the engine quits...

I think when it becomes a new software for the engine, it could be so that it isn't a problem with catless..
