My 87 190DT - BSharp - 10-19-2010

I bought this about 6 months ago. Since I got it I have done quite a bit. Rear bushings, Bilstein HD struts and shocks, fan clutch, euro headlights, CLK wheels, 400E sway bar, tons of vacuum repair, tie rods, odometer fix, replaced seats and drivers door panel, repainted bumpers, grill, replaced center stack console, later leather steering wheel, added a BBS rear spoiler, glow plugs, motor mounts....I am sure more.

Yea, it was lightly tagged in front before I got it. When I get it painted I straighten it out.

RE: My 87 190DT - JB3 - 10-25-2010

looks great! do you have any rubbing with those CLK rims on there? Did it require any spacing out, what did you use?

RE: My 87 190DT - BSharp - 10-25-2010

The tires do not rub the fenders, I am running 205/55 16. No spacers. I did have to cut down the lug bolts because they are too long.

RE: My 87 190DT - mike-81-240d - 10-25-2010

Looks GREAT! I wish I could find a affordable w123 spoiler. Sad

Should always lower both evenly.

The front sits higher that the rear, I want to level it. It would look about the same if I lowered the rear the same amount.

Very nice looking w201, not drop in a 5 speed and awaken that 602.

I might someday, though an auto is nice sometimes (I must be getting older). If I feel the need to shift I can drive my mustang. Wink

RE: My 87 190DT - Captain America - 11-05-2010

The mustang is killer!

RE: My 87 190DT - BSharp - 11-15-2010

Installed near perfect black carpet and taxi rear trans hump protector thing. Repainted my gauge needles as well.

Lowered a little more than an inch in the front. The front fender is now about 1/4" lower than the rear.

RE: My 87 190DT - winmutt - 12-03-2010

Cut coils?

RE: My 87 190DT - BSharp - 12-03-2010

I removed the spacer and cut 3/4 coil. No increase in NVH.

Thanks.
I ended up putting the spacer back in with 3/4 coil cut off. It sat a little too low. Also repainted my rocker panels since they were faded gray.

RE: My 87 190DT - Captain America - 12-06-2010

Man I love that car

RE: My 87 190DT - Diesel-Wiking - 12-21-2010

a beauty! A pretty car with the right engine, 10/10 from meSmile

RE: My 87 190DT - Jtn190D - 12-23-2010

Very nice car. You should paint your grill insert black. It really makes it look a lot better.

RE: My 87 190DT - BSharp - 12-23-2010

Thanks guys. I was thinking about repainting the grill today as a matter of fact. I am not a big fan of black grill. It look ok on some colors. I am going to paint it the same dark charcoal that is on the rocker panels and bumpers.

RE: My 87 190DT - Captain America - 12-23-2010

I would satin black the grill inserts and leave the chrome to give it an awesome contrast!

RE: My 87 190DT - BSharp - 12-24-2010

Painted the grill dark charcoal Tongue and painted the RH mirror.

RE: My 87 190DT - Jtn190D - 12-24-2010

That looks better:-)

RE: My 87 190DT - BSharp - 01-03-2011

Visited Willie Nelson's Place in Carl's Corner Tx.

RE: My 87 190DT - BSharp - 05-08-2011

Over the last few days I replaced the front control arms with new complete units. One old ball joint had play in it and the bushings were pretty cracked. The new bushings are harder than the OE ones and the NVH did increase a little but it is well worth it. It is so much more stable at speed and the bump steer is gone under hard cornering. I also removed the rear spring pads to lower the rear about 13/16". Finally matches the front.

RE: My 87 190DT - willbhere4u - 05-08-2011

looks great!

RE: My 87 190DT - BSharp - 05-17-2011

Last fri night I had to get fueled up at In-N-Out in Allen TX so I could go the the wrecking yard.

I picked up a few things, I am changing the interior to black. Picked up extra seat cushions, black header panel, uncracked 93 dash, later rear deck panel, black sun visors, tan front door panels, 2 door straps, 4 black fabric covered door weatherstrips, spare diesel tach, glow plug controller (2001 build date) and various other things.
More pics

RE: My 87 190DT - Captain America - 05-18-2011

Wish my interior was black....

Did you get a Flying Dutchman @ In-N-out?

Nope, double double with grilled onions.

RE: My 87 190DT - Captain America - 05-18-2011

The Flying D is the best thing there!

RE: My 87 190DT - BSharp - 07-05-2011

Finally finished my black interior install. Originally blue interior. Ended up changing or painting everything, door panels, rear deck, A, B and C pillar trim. Installed black seats and carpet. The past weekend I installed a good black dash, new heater core, 3 vacuum elements and painted the center console and center stack. Also put carbon filer wrap on the wood pieces. Worked on is for 14-15 hours in 100F temp. Fun times.

Thanks, came out better than I thought. Now for the exterior paint. yuk.

RE: My 87 190DT - BSharp - 03-08-2014

I got the car repainted last summer and forgot to post pics. I repainted the factory color, nautical blue. Replaced both front doors, repainted all the trim and bumpers.

RE: My 87 190DT - mike-81-240d - 03-11-2014

I was hoping you still owned this! Nice paint job.

RE: My 87 190DT - raysorenson - 03-11-2014

It's a great looking car. I like the early models without the body cladding.

RE: My 87 190DT - BSharp - 03-11-2014

Thanks guys. I also added a digital volt meter to the dome light and added a interior vent temp display made from a spare outside temp display.

Maybe if the auto goes out.

RE: My 87 190DT - Jetmugg - 03-26-2014

I am also the proud owner of an '87 190DT engine, with 5-speed, transplanted into a '93 190E 2.6 Chassis.

BSharp, yours is looking great. What size tires are you running? I'm on a mix of 205/55/16 front and 225/50/16 on the rear. It's time for new rubber, and think that I should step down in diameter, make all 4 the same size tires, and also give it an altitude adjustment.

Steve.

RE: My 87 190DT - BSharp - 03-27-2014

I am running 205 55 16 front and back. The car is lowered 1/2-3/4 front and rear.

RE: My 87 190DT - Jetmugg - 03-27-2014

Sounds like a good size to me (205/55/16) all around. As you can see from the photo, mine sits plenty high right now (especially in the front). Have you had any issues with the fronts rubbing on your fenders?

I have done the fender spacer trick on the front, and "rolled" the inner lip of the front fenders. I have no rubbing right now, but I think that's mainly due to the large fender gap.

Thanks again,

Steve.
