W124 OM606, manual setup - Diesel-Frank - 03-16-2011

hi, i have a W124 with the om606 engine, what parts can i use to a 400+hp engine??

planning to buy a getrag 717 450 from a CE 300-24, and i have a flywheel from a OM603 engine.

sprinter clutch??

is there machinework to get the getrag, om603 flywheel, and sprinter-clutch to fit in my car??

RE: W124 OM606, manual setup - winmutt - 03-17-2011

The sprinter clutch disc is one solution. They are harder to source over here. You might want to ask around in the W201 forums about how strong the trans are. You will need a solution for the driveshaft I think unless the one from the CE is the proper fit on the front half. Also be aware that the w124s had 2 different types of DS, one larger than the other with larger flexdisks etc.

the only thing i need to know is, how to get this parts together? how much machinework, or is it "bolt-on"?

RE: W124 OM606, manual setup - winmutt - 03-17-2011

Other than the driveshaft it is all bolt on in my experience and a few others. We dont have many manual 300CE-24s here so I cant really comment on that.

RE: W124 OM606, manual setup - muuris - 03-18-2011

You need to change engine internals so it is equivalent to original turbo OM606.

And when that is done. Sprinter cluch cant handle that power wery long.

RE: W124 OM606, manual setup - Diesel-Frank - 03-18-2011

hmm.. ok

i have ordered the transmission today, the next i need is the clutch.

i have a flywheel from om603, is this ok, or do i need another part??

give me some good input!Smile

In first post you say at your engine is from w124.
w124 newer got turbo OM606

That did not translate properly? I think you meant to say that only models newer than w124 got turbo 606.

ohh, sorry, i wrote it wrong..

the engine is from a 98 w210.

tha car is a 86 300d OM603 non-turbo.

to the 606 turbo engine i have a myna pump with ALDA and a new cam, KKD header with external wastegate, and å holset HX40.

RE: W124 OM606, manual setup - muuris - 03-20-2011

Good thing it's a turbo-engine. But the Sprinter clutch will slip.

I have Sachs ..765 pressure plate on a custom flywheel. It's 240mm and reasonable price.

can you help me with the flywheel and clutch?? what is the price on this parts??

the 717.450 transmission is on it`s way to me now. it`s from a 300CE-24

RE: W124 OM606, manual setup - aaa - 03-20-2011

The om603 flywheel should already be 240mm.

Yes, but 765 pressure plate is for BMW M5 (E34) and won't bolt on to Merc flywheel without modifications.

765 cost around 300 euros here. I use normal clutch disc from C250 turbodiesel.

can i use my 603 flywheel for my getrag 717.450??

Better to do on 200d FW. Is there any performance parts sale company?
That pressure plate number is 883082 999765 and made by Sachs.
Disk can use MB c250dt. Luk, Sachs etc.

RE: W124 OM606, manual setup - erling66 - 03-25-2011

Hi Diesel Frank

The 60x single mass FW are very different from a dual mass FW. A google search will give you the info you need, and you will quickly find out why you can forget about the dual mass FW for your project.
Where in Norway are you located? I am in Skien

Jeemu; why do you like the 200D(601?) FW? less weight?

It s easy and cheap to get. That can machined better cluch.
Still best way is to machine total new FW CrMo like i have.

It costs upwards from 300-350 euros in Finland, but if I were you, I'd ask the local machine shop..

There is ready model to om6xx and long clutch axle combo CrMo wheel and it cost 250eur asked today. There fit that -765 pressureplate

Pressure plate is for a BMW, which has 10mm disc. The Merc disc I use is thinner, so the step is needed in order to achieve the specified clamping force.

RE: W124 OM606, manual setup - 300D50 - 04-07-2011

Makes sense, a lot of people don't take that into account when doing a clutch swap-out.

RE: W124 OM606, manual setup - willbhere4u - 05-05-2011

On this thread you can see the solid mass fly wheel I am using on my om603 6spd project it is for a sprinter 2.2 CDI to replace the original dual mass flywheel! http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/thread-om603-clutch-options
Notice the pilot bearing in the flywheel not the crank shaft it's for the shorter style input shaft transmissios

hi guys,
sorry to go away from om606 but what solid flywheel and clutch can i use for my om605 that has standard dual mass at the minute. The clutch is not done but is slipping at 260 hp. This will maybe give you an idea of what power standard clutches can take.
I can get uprated pressure plate made with more clamping force and paddle clutch but i am afraid of the dual mass flywheel.

It a slave cylinder that mounts inside of the transmission. The 6spd I have uses this set up

I think the flywheel above would still fit it built for an om611. sprinter

But I think it should bolt up to any om60x engine I'm using it for an om603 turbo

Only if you transmission was set up for one originally. If not you don't need it

My transmission is out of an 02 C230 kompressor and that's what they came with stockCool

same pressure plate found my own car.
