Engine emergency shut off not working. - dieselsmoke300d - 10-05-2012

Ok so I just noticed this yesterday and figured it's important enough to ask about. My engine shuts off fine with the key. So the vacuum shut off works fine. But yesterday when I went to shut it off with the lever while working on something, it just sputtered like crazy but refused to shut off. Now I figure this would be bad if it didn't stop via key at some point. I didn't find any info elsewhere since this isn't ever supposed to fail, hence the fact that it's a "failsafe". So what am I looking at here?

see if there is a bind in the linkage, or to much slop that maybe is not allowing it to reach full shut off.

I've had it where a piece of that little fuel return line was getting in the way of all that linkage there.

In my case the external linkage dampener was turned in too much. A long 13mm or 14mm nut and a big srewdriver fixed it.
