IP numbers...what do they mean? - THE DIGGER - 01-30-2013

Ive read a good few threads on here where they refer to how much fuel a pump can deliver:

standard 606 n/a pump is supposed to delivery 60cc,

while ive read about pumps with larger elements 7.5 ect giving anything from 120 to 200+ cc's

Is this at a max rpm, most of dieselmekens videos show 3000 rpm pump speed?

Or has it more to do with rack travel?

Or somthing else?

The pump operates at half engine rpm.

It also has to do with how much fuel you want to "squeeze" out of the element.

The maximum quantity an element can deliver is not necessarily a well usable quantity.

correct, thats what lead me to belive it was at max rpm.
3k pump speed is max engine rpm.

How do I KNOW how much fuel i want then?

surely if I send my pump of to be fitted with 7.5 elements and it gives me say 120cc of fuel but i still have a small stock turbo I cannot burn this amount of fuel, which will give me too high egt's and smoke on full throttle?

Does the pump need to be set to deliver the amount of fuel you think you can burn based on turbo size?

I have asked a couple of the know specialist on these pumps this before I send my pump off to one of them but haven't got an answer Huh

I believe that larger elements can be 'detuned' by playing with the pump internals, and the addition of an ALDA (whether stock or aftermarket).

The pump guys will have a better explanation, however.

You don't need to use the full range of the rack, for example the Myna pumps have an adjustable rack stop. Ideally the ALDA would also prevent you from using the full range when you don't have enough air, not sure how well that works in practice though.

Large element pumps can be "detuned" very easily: DON'T push the pedal all the waySmile
