Fanfare horns...
How do this differ from US horns??

RE: Junkyard Finds - ForcedInduction - 10-23-2010

RE: Junkyard Finds - willbhere4u - 10-23-2010

How did you wire it up? I noticed on the car I got the horns out of there was a big relay box wired in to the harness near the fan fair horn

I figured I would just make my own relay to switch between the two horns I also grabbed the fanfair horn switch for the dash so I figured I'd use that to activate the relay any thoughts?

RE: Junkyard Finds - ForcedInduction - 10-23-2010

Thats not my video. The switch for it is just a simple SPDT on-on type that sends power to either horn type from the same circuit.

I have two of the switches, and section of harness, if anybody needs one.

FI if the fanfare horns are still there the next time you go I'd probably be interested if you don't mind. How much ($$) do you think you'd need for them (+s/h)?

BTW any ideas on where to find a 600 series horn?? Sounds like a darned ocean going liner or tugboat. Pretty awesome.

RE: Junkyard Finds - willbhere4u - 11-28-2010

I got front and back nearly perfect gray leather seats and both front door panels and front carpets for my 300sdl out of a really nice 1990 300se at the you pull and pay fro $180 including a good passenger mirror and headliner front panel!

Now I have to wait for a long wheel base w126 to come in to the yards to grab the rear carpet and rear door panels I also really need to find a pair of good gray sun visors!

my car had a tan interior witch was a disaster area and completely useless!

RE: Junkyard Finds - willbhere4u - 11-28-2010

I got and installed a factory leather steering wheel today! F#@* that stupid knee absorber thing under the dash it sucks to remove! and I replaced my broken cruise control switch and also replace my vacuum locking pump!

Now the cruise works but it surges acceleration and deceleration back and forth by like 10mph yikes

And the door locks work! well sort of now they will all unlock just fine!

But only the front doors and the trunk lock the back doors try but wont go down all the way they must have a leak? also the gas door lock is broken!

The line on the pump its self was a little loose so I will start by replacing the rubber connector line!

and score I got a nearly perfect dash with no cracks! It was a lot easier than I thought it only took me about 20min to get it out!

RE: Junkyard Finds - garage - 02-28-2011

I FOUND-out that a 1981 w126SD trunk lid is aluminum, and a 1983 w126SD trunk lid is steel.

RE: Junkyard Finds - dieselboy - 03-07-2011

Your 80 Sd should have alumn hood and trunk. Mine does..

And the rest of the car is made of lead hahaha

RE: Junkyard Finds - 300D50 - 03-07-2011

Due to their tank-like nature, I'd think depleted uranium would be used instead of lead. :p

AHHHH lucky sob!

I search my arse off for one of these w115 manifolds and can never find one!
I find plenty of old sad w115s, but they all have the 4cylDodgy

RE: Junkyard Finds - Captain America - 04-06-2011

Yeah! I got one off a black one of those things...

That's an easy one to get. You didn't have to deal with that dreaded York A/C compressor.

RE: Junkyard Finds - stan - 04-07-2011

i just had an idea:

what if we made a list of parts we are looking for in the junkyards. i usually am able to make it out to the ones near me every week or two, but i have to pick one to go to, so i often don't hit the same one up more than every month or two - i probably miss a lot of stuff. we would all keep tabs on the list, and if we find something in the junkyard, buy and pull it for the person who needs it and they pay the picker back + shipping / etc. i think that even just amongst the few of us in socal, we could really expand our abilities to hunt down junkyard parts. i for one would have no problem grabbing odds and ends for the core group of people on here. obviously we would have to limit it to members who we all know and can vouch for so nobody gets stuck with a $75 IP they dont need.

example: i need a proper 240D throttle linkage setup. it's $8 from ecology, but i can't find any so far.

RE: Junkyard Finds - garage - 04-07-2011

Sounds like a nice idea and all.
Have to really trust people to not stick you with the bill if they change there minds.

RE: Junkyard Finds - garage - 04-10-2011

I get paid tomorrow, so ill be picking it up then.
Unfortunately the darn AC compressor is still in the way.

Does anyone actually have a list of what cars has aluminum/steel? Both my 81s have aluminum, and I checked an 82 and 83 at the yards and they were aluminum too. I want a steel trunk lid so I can use mag mount antennas and magnetic bumper stickers...

RE: Junkyard Finds - 300D50 - 04-10-2011

Ghetto-tize it with that magnetic wall paint! Wink

RE: Junkyard Finds - dieselboy - 04-10-2011

Put another magnet in under the trunk? Glue a small peice of steel in?

RE: Junkyard Finds - 300D50 - 04-16-2011

Found a TIGHT Eaton M90. Should I pull it?

RE: Junkyard Finds - yankneck696 - 04-17-2011

We used to do a rebuild on every M90 that came into the yard. Once you get all the correct #'s it's about $28.00 for the parts from the local bearing shop.

RE: Junkyard Finds - 300D50 - 04-17-2011

Meant "tight' as in no slop/grind/wear/notchy.

It's being pulled. Smile

RE: Junkyard Finds - Captain America - 06-06-2011

Mmmmm Lucky. I like those! What is that stuff from?

RE: Junkyard Finds - dieselboy - 06-06-2011

I tried the wheels on my Sd and I don't really care for them. I got them off a w126sd. They at 16x 7.5 with 70% kumhos ast 225 tires. I got the 160mph speedo from a 79 v8 w116 with STD gauges too. I'm going to sell the wheels and tires for about 300$.

I found a 2.47:1 diff but I was out of money by the time I found it.

RE: Junkyard Finds - RonB - 06-11-2011

You guys dont know how lucky you are! . To get parts i often have to buy a whole car ,remove the bits i need then scrap the rest. Big Grin

We do that too! I did haha

RE: Junkyard Finds - 300D50 - 06-23-2011

Found a W123 with an ok set of alloy bundts, anyone want em? I'll be at the yard latter today.

The yard price list says 27 each with core charge.

RE: Junkyard Finds - dieselboy - 06-25-2011

Got a 2.65 diff out of a w116 today!!! And rear bilstiens.

Uhhh did some research and I might go back tomorrow to make sure that the car I got it from isn't a 6.9. If it is then........

RE: Junkyard Finds - Biohazard - 06-27-2011

If it is a 6.9 then it should be a LSD unit also! I've had my 2.65 from the same car in my 82 300SD. I've also test fit it into my 77 240D. It fits in both cars, but you will have to swap the input flange for the smaller one on your stock diff. You may have to flip the rear diff mount 180 degrees to make it fit correct, but other than that it should fit right in!

RE: Junkyard Finds - DeliveryValve - 06-27-2011

Just open it up. If it has clutches, it's an LSD and most likely came from a 6.9.

.

RE: Junkyard Finds - dieselboy - 06-27-2011

No LSD unless it's really worn. But the car didn't have hydraulic suspension so it wasn't a 6.9.

RE: Junkyard Finds - Biohazard - 06-27-2011

It should have the gear ratio stamped on the lower left corner of the diff, next to the rear diff cover. If it is an LSD unit, it should have a metal tag on one of the output flange bolts also. I have no idea if the clutches are any good in mine or not, I don't have enough power to test that yet! LOL

RE: Junkyard Finds - DeliveryValve - 10-07-2011

Was walking with a buddy in the yard today and noticed this 1982 280ce with Euro bumpers. Checked it out. It's a Grey Market Car with 87,415 on the ODO (not sure if that's accurate), M110 engine and has a numbers matching 717.400 5 speed!

An hour later, I am in possession of a smooth rotating 717.400, driveshaft, shifter and pedal assembly.

Not sure what I am going to do with it. For now it's going into storage with all my other Mercedes crap to collect dust. Rolleyes

Exactly! I was just sad laying under that thing. Amazingly straight and rust free car. Only issue was the the left part of the Euro three piece bumper was crumpled and a cracked dash. The interior was not faded or worn at all, apart from a rip in the driver's side seat. I was temped to pull the motor which had a great Sanden compressor A/C setup. But probably in another day.

My words exactly, when I learned you got that wagon front sway bar pulled for you... Dodgy

Pulled a 120-amp W123 alternator the other day.

Also pulled an MW-pump. Under thirty bucks. Including the lines. The injectors too. However, I must say, whoever put that lower front attachment bolt on, must be the same Teufel as designed how the cruise control amp is fastened-on...

DeliveryValve's buddy's other walks are, of course, on water...

RE: Junkyard Finds - DanielK - 10-12-2011

I need to start going to the Junkyard more often...all of them.

RE: Junkyard Finds - willbhere4u - 10-12-2011

I got a w123 euro front bumper off a 280e

It's slightly different that the damaged one on my euro wagon the chrome wraps further around the side of the car I should have grabbed the rubber fillers but I didn't have the time or tools so I will modify the ones I have to fit it!

I also got a RH front fender for my 1963 220s

RE: Junkyard Finds - vstef_is - 10-18-2011

Indeed, the 280 (both saloon and coupe) bumpers were all chrome / metal with no rubber flaps on the side. That was standard for the Euro spec.

RE: Junkyard Finds - willbhere4u - 10-18-2011

I wish I had known that! I would have grabbed the rubber moldings to

I'll have to modify the ones I have to fit the new bumper

RE: Junkyard Finds - Captain America - 11-14-2011

Found some of the Early (low spec) euro lights! When I was looking for some Jeeps parts on Saturday.. The 240 also had the Aluminum wheels, but I didn't grab those. They're in pretty good shape, need a little polish job, some seals and they will be good to go.
