I have just started the job to remove all paint and rustSmile But behind the fenders there are some type of plastic like rust protection that are very difficult to remove. Sandblasting doesn't help. Does anyone have some advise? maybe some liquid that will melt it?

Id get a chemical mask and try a heat gun, see if it loosens it up enough to scrape off.

Id suggest paint remover, but my experience has been that paint remover is really good for 1-3 layers of paint at a time, and some kind of thick undercoating it would probably take longer than just wire wheeling it all off.

The white thick stuff there is a bit tricky to get of. Cleaned may Granada for that stuff, and it took a while. Paint remover does not help. Little bit easyer with heat. Best is to sharpen up some flat metal about 3cm wide and weld it to a screwdriver and use it as a scrape. Make sure its stiff enough.
I would advise you to only remove it around where the rust is and let the rest be. Weld the rust and put new "bodyskydd" over there again. Its not dangerous to paint over it.

I have started to remove the rust and sand blast it. As usual you discover 5 times more rust than you thought(or hoped for)Confused
Here is a hole I found in the front corner:
and now it is goneSmile
[Image: P5160015_zpsed168e8d.jpg]
The welding is not perfect but if you want to do that, it will take foreverDodgy

Finally some real progressSmile The engine bay has been primed with 2 k epoxy primer. First I removed all the nasty putty Ford used and sandblasted everything, then welded the rust holes. Sandblasted the welded spots and then it was time for primer.

any recent updates?

question on the parking brake, was that original to the van center mounted like that?
Looking at that again, I love that solution with the shifter above the assembly like that.

I wish I could do the same with my arrangement, but most of the mechanism is below the floor on mine.

Hi
Well I bought another Green Ford (taunus) this summer and decided to put a OM604 in it with a big turbo, so the Transit has been on hold for a while. I will make a thread for the new project soon

I am curious tooTongue but everything is possible (but not easy) if you really want it to pass. A friend of mine has a VW transporter with a 1200hp twin turbo V8 Chevy that passed the inspection.
