500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 02-05-2013 Hi, i started doing some work back in october on the new drift project, starting at the back and then i will work my way forward. looking around the yard i said to myself, what backend will i use? mmm? subframe needs stripped, blasted, painted and poly bushed. some HKS supra front coilovers with bottom bush. lets sort these. RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - Simpler=Better - 02-05-2013 I like it! RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 02-06-2013 (02-05-2013, 08:14 PM)Simpler=Better I like it!thanks, some stripping done today. RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - w123love - 02-06-2013 Woooo that looks like fun! RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 02-07-2013 big 6 with mr eaton m112. not much room down the side of engine for pipework, with inner wing. don't know about up top, any suggestions? RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - Simpler=Better - 02-08-2013 I would put it on the side and run stiff motor mounts RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 02-08-2013 (02-08-2013, 07:43 AM)Simpler=Better I would put it on the side and run stiff motor mountssuperchargers are not very common over here and parts etc, do you know if there is a shorter snout for the m112? and where and how much? it would keep it forward and away from the shock mount there on the inner wing you can see in the pic. RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - Ksteen2 - 02-14-2013 The M112 is deliverd on many cars, for AMG mercs to Big growly amcar V8's, I would start my search On Ebay, and why M112 not M90? They can be ported so you get 1,5 bar att 1500rpm So it will be a overkill I think with something Bigger? That's just my opinon tho Nice prodject anyhow RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 02-14-2013 (02-14-2013, 04:22 AM)Ksteen2 The M112 is deliverd on many cars, for AMG mercs to i have the m112 now so i have to use it. i thought it might be better than m90. It must be a lot longer. the problem i'm having is the length, if i keep it down low on the block under the steering pump, the engine mount is in the way, by the time i fit the air intake at the back it will be close to the starter its looking like it may have to go on top RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - raysorenson - 02-14-2013 The OE equipped M112 motors that I've seen have a separate belt for the SC. It sits in front of the accessory drive belt, requiring the long snout. Have you thought about using nitrous instead? RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 02-14-2013 (02-14-2013, 07:36 AM)raysorenson The OE equipped M112 motors that I've seen have a separate belt for the SC. It sits in front of the accessory drive belt, requiring the long snout.maybe some nitrous as well RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - brynton - 02-14-2013 Hi wayne, i have bought the same charger, and my problem is that im using an OM605 which is even shorter :0( I have found out that the snouts on m90's are inter changable so you can get a real short snout. The problem is trying to find a snout on its own with out the rest of the charger with out spending another couple of hundred quid. The other slight issue is the M112 has the mounting points on the snout, and you would have to fab a bracket to hang off from somewhere round the snouts bottom bolt holes. Bryn RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 02-14-2013 thanks Bryn, are you running turbo as well, what turbo? yea, you have less room than me, what body of car? i might have to mount her up top, track car, not so pretty. if it wasn't for the engine mount i could work it. just seen your thread w202. RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - willbhere4u - 02-14-2013 Mount it where the intake manifold goes stick the snout out where the fuel filter goes! and make a custom intake manifold RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - OM616 - 02-14-2013 There is enough meat in the snout to cut it down and machine the bearing and seal pocket. I have done this with a M90. I have a couple of GMC 4-71 and 6-71 blowers available that will surely provide enough air LOL... Plus, they could be under driven. RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 02-15-2013 (02-14-2013, 05:07 PM)willbhere4u Mount it where the intake manifold goes stick the snout out where the fuel filter goes! and make a custom intake manifoldhi, i think you have it. thanks. i was always thinking of the manifold and didn't think of the obvious. think that spring will hold it. thanks also om616, would rather it fitted without machining, have you any idea how much i could shorten it by by machining? RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - willbhere4u - 02-15-2013 looks good! RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - brynton - 02-16-2013 Hi Wayne, I currently have a kkk from a mercedes lorry but i fear that it will now be too small, once coupled with the M112 I am following black smoke racings delevopment and can get a cheap (less than half the price than the uk) hx52 that requires a rebuild from the states, but the shipping is quite expensive. they run a modified hx52, along with a custom intake (these pics are from a write up a few months ago) a modified charger belt that is toothed instead of ribbed (better grip i assume) the M90 feeds the turbo directly (via a large plastic valve) and runs approx 50 psi Im not sure if the hx52 is too big, considering the om605 is a full 500 smaller than the om606, so wont have as much flow, so maybe an hx40 should do It will be in a w202 the same as yours. as for space, i am doing away with the AC pump, and using the bolt holes on the block to help create the base for a solid mount (om616, when you shortened your snout, did you shorten the pulley side of the shaft, or the end that the coupler attatches too??) I would like to keep it a daily driver, and also TRY to keep the electronic pump, too, with some software changes. Jemmu has a friend who has a 605 running Karala software, so maybe that is an option RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - Ksteen2 - 02-16-2013 If you look at EDH_performance's thread, You ser how he mounted the SC. I think that's the way for you to go Also I'll be mounting his Old SC in my W123 And I'll be using a BW KKK 31 in my car, From a MAN TGX 540 RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 03-12-2013 my new clutch and pressure plate. RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - Ksteen2 - 03-12-2013 clutch disk and pressure plate from BMW? RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 03-12-2013 yea, its from kl racing, e34 m5 with 765 sachs race pressure plate. need to sort out my flywheel, (EDH PERFORMANCE) style RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - Ksteen2 - 03-12-2013 Aha, I'll going to do mine EDH style my self to ;p RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 03-12-2013 nice one. removed front bottom arm and did some extending. RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - Ksteen2 - 03-13-2013 Is that just for more camber and looks, or actually for more lock to lock steering? RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 03-13-2013 more camber and more lock, it leaves the track rod end somewhere to go when on full lock, so it doesnt hit the arm. RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - OM616 - 03-13-2013 (02-16-2013, 02:06 PM)brynton (om616, when you shortened your snout, did you shorten the pulley side of the shaft, or the end that the coupler attatches too??) Here is a pic of the nose. I do not remember which end of the shaft I cut. I did that about 5 years ago. It will be obvious which end you have to cut down though. RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - Ksteen2 - 03-14-2013 aha, cool, keep up the good work RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 03-14-2013 more lock is not so easy, hub hitting my arm extension, so i cut the side of the tubing to see what i can achieve. also trimmed away the lip on the side of the arm to leave more room for track rod end and tyre. RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - Simpler=Better - 03-15-2013 Lookin' good Will the shock bolt get in your way? RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 03-15-2013 (03-15-2013, 06:20 AM)Simpler=Better Lookin' goodno, shock bolt is ok, hub just hits arm. think i'm gonna have to rethink the whole thing, its not working the way i want it to. after all this grief i'm only gaining about 1 inch more lock at the hub. RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 03-19-2013 steering lock sorted. RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - Ksteen2 - 03-19-2013 shit :o you can drive backwards, your a ambisous man :p RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - HaavardPYA - 03-19-2013 Nice! Now some pics of how you sorted it RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 03-19-2013 ok, no problem. i have some temporary welds done at the minute, i will post up some pics soon, when i take all back out to weld them up. RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - raysorenson - 03-19-2013 Wow. I can see how that could come in handy with a large slip angle. RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 03-22-2013 (03-19-2013, 10:57 AM)HaavardPYA Nice! Now some pics of how you sorted it couldn't get no information on this on the web at all about steering box setups so, i worked this out(after a while) made it a little longer RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - Simpler=Better - 03-22-2013 (03-22-2013, 09:30 AM)mantahead(03-19-2013, 10:57 AM)HaavardPYA Nice! Now some pics of how you sorted it I love your cut and reweld approach. I see lots of people spending hours looking for rare stock parts that don't exist. Needs to be longer? Cut that shit and weld some steel on it. RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 03-22-2013 cut the other one also. RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - raysorenson - 03-22-2013 I'm planning on welding a pitman arm to fit an aluminum fast ratio 16v steering gear to my w124. Did you preheat the arms and slow cool them? RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 03-22-2013 yep, i left it in front of the space heater for about 45mins after welding and kept moving it back gradually RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - MFSuper90 - 03-22-2013 You could turn sharp enough to cut doughnuts without spinning! RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - Ksteen2 - 03-25-2013 awesome how much did you extend it? RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 03-25-2013 (03-25-2013, 03:47 AM)Ksteen2 awesomenot much 15mm RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - HaavardPYA - 03-25-2013 But when you extended the arm ther you are running standard hubs and spindles? RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - Ksteen2 - 03-26-2013 heah, and original merch has holy crap of turn angle, what would it be now?? like WTF?!?! steereng angle? :p RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - Simpler=Better - 03-26-2013 Hey run it until it breaks, and then rebuild it stronger RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 03-26-2013 (03-25-2013, 02:44 PM)HaavardPYA But when you extended the arm ther you are running standard hubs and spindles?hi, hubs are modified, knuckles that track rod end goes into moved closer to centre on hub. welded them on at the right angle to keep ackerman angle. had to grind some material away to stop hub hitting bottom wishbone. haven't got them finished yet. (03-26-2013, 03:22 AM)Ksteen2 heah, and original merch has holy crap of turn angle, what would it be now??hi, i put it on angle gauges and i have 55 degrees at the minute. maybe i will get some more. I need some help guys, does anyone know what vehicle has longer track rod ends than the w202 but the same thread. i need some longer ones for my car, about 2inches longer, thread is m12x1.5 female thread. or is there an adapter i can buy, male and female RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - HaavardPYA - 03-27-2013 Aha, i see! Love to see pics of those to when you are finished This way to improve steering angle is so much better in my head than the way many driftcars use to do it!!(wisefab etc) Cool when the cars look almost as original but with many mod under the shell RE: 500BHP DRIFT PROJECT - mantahead - 03-28-2013 any ideas on wide arches? how about this? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v421/AMGfan/w202dtmweb.jpg |
