I never had any problems with it popping off under boost. If memory serves correctly there was a rolled/cast lip on the plenum to help retain the hose. The Ford Mustang SVO from the mid eighties used a similar set up but had a hood scoop to exhaust the heat from the intercooler. Even with the scoop, under sustained boost the temperature of the intercooler core would continue to climb until the engine pinged itself to death by function of the super heated air + boost. In effect, the intercooler became an inter-heater. Granted the Mustang saw boost levels in excess of 1 bar...but the same should hold true here. Intercoolers have to be cooled somehow; whether it be air blowing over the fins or water being pumped past them and subsequently cooled by a heat exchanger. Did AMG ever offer an intercooler setup for these cars? It's been sitting or 2 years in a mechanics storage yard after the owner drove over a supermarket parking stop. It ripped the alloy sump off the engine. The Garage repaired and it runs well but the owner has disappeared . once i find the owner,the car is mine. I have since my greasy hands on the 300 STT in the above post . The car itself is quite good but i have a better 300D manual ...so the whole kit and kaboodle will be swapped over. i have been in touch with STT and they kndly sent me a instruction sheet for the kit....in Swedish. The kit includes the complete exhaust ... But i also have a 20D powered W110 station wagon , so i'll be looking for STT parts for that now.
