Think my trans is shot - SicNick - 06-10-2011 Went for a drive in the samurai for the first time since I broke the intermediate shaft, while driving. When the transmission upshifts from second it revs up then never engages third gear...It just acts like it hits neutral again. Trans fluid level is good, recent fluid and filter change. Is there anything easy I can check before I hit the junkyards? If replacement is the most cost effective option, what MB automatics ( applications) will bolt up to my OM601? Is the bellhousing for my 4 cylinder and the 5 cylinder the same? TIA Gentlemen RE: Think my trans is shot - Kozuka - 06-10-2011 M10X/M111/OM60X share the same bellhousing RE: Think my trans is shot - dieselboy - 06-10-2011 disconnect the kickdown and see what it does RE: Think my trans is shot - SicNick - 06-11-2011 (06-10-2011, 11:23 PM)Kozuka M10X/M111/OM60X share the same bellhousing Sorryim not super knowledgable on all th MB lingo, is that basically all the newer engines? Ex. Not the 616,617,etc what other Vehicle models would include those engines? to find a replacement? Thanks (06-10-2011, 11:35 PM)dieselboy disconnect the kickdown and see what it does I like your thinking but no change, just shifted super early, as you'd expect. RE: Think my trans is shot - Kozuka - 06-11-2011 (06-11-2011, 05:22 PM)SicNick(06-10-2011, 11:23 PM)Kozuka M10X/M111/OM60X share the same bellhousing Yeah, any 86-03 inline 4/5/6 cylinder gas & diesel share that same bellhousing om61X have the starter on the other side. RE: Think my trans is shot - SicNick - 06-11-2011 That's great news! So now I guess I'd be curious if there are any other models that I should look for since it needs to be replaced anyway... Same size would be choice with same output flange(because I already had mine machined to match a suzuki flange) an overdrive would be nice for me as I have plenty of low range from my 6.5 To 1 t-case Wonder if there's a gasser trans that would fit this description? RE: Think my trans is shot - Kozuka - 06-11-2011 Well, ideally then you would want the auto trans out of a W201 or W124 they are all pretty much the same from what I know. But I am by no means a automatic expert. Since you are just using a OM601 you shouldn't have any power issues, ideally you would look for one with the gearing you want, they are all 1:1 4th gear anyway. There is a 5 speed auto option but way too expensive unless your planning on pushing 500+ tq's. Just swap out your output flange to the trans, bung it in. Call it good. RE: Think my trans is shot - SicNick - 06-15-2011 So, as far as you know, there aren't any fully mechanical autos that will bolt up and have overdrive? That would be choice! RE: Think my trans is shot - willbhere4u - 06-15-2011 I wonder if the auto I'm am about to pull out of my 300sdl it an om603 would work for you? It's made for a 4000# car with a turbo 6 cylinder engine If it would work for you let me know and ill let you test drive it before I sell it to you! It will be a few weeks before I pull it out! RE: Think my trans is shot - Kozuka - 06-15-2011 (06-15-2011, 09:38 AM)SicNick So, as far as you know, there aren't any fully mechanical autos that will bolt up and have overdrive? That would be choice! No the 722.6 transmission with a overdrive gear has electronic solenoid actuated transmission. RE: Think my trans is shot - SicNick - 07-07-2011 Anyone see issue with using a '90 300E trans? Hopefully the external dimensions are the same and the splined output... Any leads for gear ratios in this trans? RE: Think my trans is shot - SicNick - 07-08-2011 http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w201-190-class/1539742-would-300e-auto-trans-work-190d.html Found this post, sounds like I should be in good shape! I found a couple 300e trannies locally for a decent price. I guess the only question left un answered is should I use my 190d TC or get the 300e TC with trans? RE: Think my trans is shot - Kozuka - 07-09-2011 It would be easier to just use the 300E TC, but the stall speed is probably different. RE: Think my trans is shot - SicNick - 07-25-2011 Snagged a trans from a 88 260E for $200, swapped it right in with my diesel torque converter, No problems at all, would this trans have the same ratios as my 190d trans? if different what would the ratios be? Thanks *quick side note for other swappers.... the gasser torque converter is larger in diameter than my diesel unit was and it wouldn't have fit inside my flywheel. So if you ever need to do what I did, keep your diesel converter!!! |
