Om60x transmission installation - Kozuka - 09-07-2012 Why is it whenever it comes time for me to do a transmission swap its so hard to get the input shaft to seat correctly in the pilot bearing. I used the alignment tool. I've done this twice now and have had to work it in easy with the bell-housing bolts. Once with the engine out on the ground and this time in the transmission well. Oh and if your planning on doing the swap without putting the engine on a W201, it requires some massaging. haha.. My 240d transmission slid right on as one would expect, is it because of the spline? RE: Om60x transmission installation - aaa - 09-07-2012 Grease the splines, maybe there's too much friction there. Maybe grease the pilot bearing too. I've yet install a trans with the newer style splines. I have one waiting to get put in though. I oughta try this on the floor, slipping the pilot bearing and clutch disk on and seeing how much friction there is. RE: Om60x transmission installation - Kozuka - 09-08-2012 Yeah I used grease its just a tight fit. Does anyone know if a output shaft spindle off a getrag will fit on a 714.411 and whats the size to get the damn thing off some 12 point? RE: Om60x transmission installation - aaa - 09-08-2012 30mm 12 pt. RE: Om60x transmission installation - raysorenson - 09-09-2012 After a bunch of effort, I pulled the trans out and hand sanded the tip of the input shaft, focusing mostly on rounding the front edge where it begins to taper. Maybe I was lucky, maybe not, but it slid right in after that. Let us know if that output shaft flange interchanges between the 2 transmissions. RE: Om60x transmission installation - aaa - 09-09-2012 I've put a w123 output flange on a w201 trans. Probably the same size as the 16v one. I'm tempted to try an automatic flange, but there would probably be clearance issues with the housing. |
