What sort of power can u get from a 2.5''?

I plan to increase power later in the cars life ( turbo, pump etc), but dont know what sort of restrictions a 2.5'' will give.

Basically im asking is a 2.5'' turbo back restrictive when you start playing with bigger turbos??

Chris

RE: exhaust size - Mark_M - 10-10-2013

guess it depends on how big the turbo. I dont really know but I would say for much over 200BHP a bigger exhaust would be needed. Exactly what your max would be on 2.5" though I will have to leave to others.

It isnt really the ultimate power either as a larger exhaust will let the turbo spool quicker as well

RE: exhaust size - Palmer - 10-10-2013

I dont really know to be honest thats for the future to decide i just wanna get the 2.5'' then it cant take the beans later on down the line. At what point do you need tobe looking at a 3'' power wise? Or is it turbo dependant

2.5 will support 400hp worth of air flow with little to no performance issues according Corky Bell. 3 inch is best bet for a diesel however due to the increase exhaust volume and density.

Getting a 2.75'' in with twin exits one either side of the bumper Wink

RE: exhaust size - lgreeley83 - 10-23-2013

Just go and get 3" and dump it behind the passenger front tire :-)....no but really, why not just throw the 3" on so you don't have to worry about restriction being a factor?

I'm sure someone will disagree about high rpm back pressure.... I default to 3" but that's just me. Cost isn't that different.

RE: exhaust size - Simpler=Better - 10-23-2013

3" is easy to find performance stuff for, 2.5" is easy to find in stores.

Technically 2.5" should be fine.

RE: exhaust size - Palmer - 10-24-2013

Im looking at a lot of money for a 3''.

The guy was explaining to me that if you bend a 3'' (mandrel or some crap) it reduces the size at it stretches. Also he wasn't prepared to do a 3'' as it may need to be bodged with the equipment he has. A 3'' system is about £300 more as well.

I think 2.75'' will be fine. I have a 3'' exit that bodged on due to a broken hangar and its mahusive.

That sounds great, how many silencers?

RE: exhaust size - willbhere4u - 10-31-2013

sounds very good!

RE: exhaust size - Palmer - 10-31-2013

No silencers at all or a cat Smile straight pipe baby!

If the law man comes a knockin', remind them that a turbocharger is technically a muffler.

RE: exhaust size - bricktron - 10-31-2013

it seems to me that if diameter would be getting reduced at the bends then he would NOT be using a mandrel. isn't consistent cross sectional area the whole point?

Brilliant.
How did you get on with the funny u bend part that goes around the steering column?
And that two part exhaust clamp.... You know the one!

RE: exhaust size - Palmer - 11-01-2013

I used MIJ in walsall. Excellent job going round the column ill post a pic of it later!

RE: exhaust size - maxypriest - 11-01-2013

were they good? How much?
Later in 2014 i will need someone to fabricate a 3.5" system for my W124.

RE: exhaust size - Palmer - 11-01-2013

They have some bad reviews on the net but then again so will anyone. Proper job though, well it should be for 720! :O

RE: exhaust size - carlitosgy6 - 11-01-2013

im running 3 inches right from the turbo,no muffler exiting right in front of the rear tire, quicker spool and a beautiful turbo whine from the exhaust

It sounds like a lot of money, but we blew $275 putting a 2.5" exhaust on my truck using the cheapest generic parts on it and did all the welding/cutting ourselves. Fitment took forever (because I'm a perfectionist)

So 720 for a professional shop to do it isn't really that bad, especially in the UK

RE: exhaust size - Palmer - 11-01-2013

Dont forget thats £720 not $!
