Prechamber - Motorhead - 10-06-2009

Has anyone done any work on the prechambers, I would think if you increase the amount of fuel than the size or shape of the prechamber holes might need adjustment? Does anyone know what the thread size and pitch of a 80's 617 injector is, are they all the same?

RE: Prechamber - ForcedInduction - 10-07-2009

Injector bodies and threads are the same between all OM61x and pre-89 OM601/2/3 engines.

Mauri H. (Finn superturbo guru) says there is no need to modify them.

There is something to do with the prechambers. But way down on the list.
Comparing the bores of n/a and turbo this could be the way to go.
The C-111 did not have mods on the pc.
Somewhere >300 hp it might be necessary listening to the gurus over here.

Thread pitch for the pre-chamber threaded ring (where the injector screws in and injectors) is M24 x 2. The pre-chamber size M22 x 1.

You can get good tools from here...
http://www.samstagsales.com/mercedes.htm#diesel

To remove the pre-chamber you'll need the threaded lock ring tool.

And this tool to remove the pre-chamber itself.

Or you can make the tools yourself.

Hey thanks again, I just got back from getting my '87 Toyota shop truck sniffed by the smog Nazi's and it passed but they told me that 1-1-2010 that Califorina will start to inspect 1985 and newer diesel autos. I hope I have a few years for my '84, I have somthing for them to sniff when they come looking for my diesel!

The smog shop said they are being trained for '85 and newer, maybe right now they will just do a visual for EGR, and a cat for the Califorina Mercedes. He said that they are getting new equipment for the diesels, I will check with my friends at SEMA and see what is going on.

Well that makes sense. Starting in 1985, California MB diesel motors had the trap oxidizers. I wouldn't doubt that they would want to do a visual to make sure all the equipment is still there. I wonder what would be the penalty if in fact is what they are going to do and see a vehicle with it's trap ox removed with a Federal setup or a by-pass pipe.

My car is a fed model that was purchased in calif. - 1982 as new. It has a California sticker too. I am just concerned about my truck...Here kitty kitty...

My understanding is that they will check for Emissions equipment and do a snap test to check for smoke/opacity.

Remember they need money and not soot, they can kiss my carbon footprint!
