Om603 engine number suffix - abosely - 07-05-2018 lolMy Om603 out of an 87’ 300D has 603 960 12 007 576 stamped on it. How do I tell what the suffix number is, as in 603.xxx? Cheers, Allen RE: Om603 engine number suffix - abosely - 07-05-2018 Well I thought I’d post a pic of it also, but that didn’t work out quite so well! Lol Cheers, Allen RE: Om603 engine number suffix - Petar - 07-05-2018 In your case it's 603.960 RE: Om603 engine number suffix - Petar - 07-05-2018 In your case it's 603.960 It's the first 6 numbers in the engine number RE: Om603 engine number suffix - abosely - 07-05-2018 (07-05-2018, 04:22 AM)Petar In your case it's 603.960 Thanks Petar. Are there differences in the 603.960 and 603.xxx versions other than externals like the oxidizer trap and such? The block & internals are the same? Cheers, Allen RE: Om603 engine number suffix - Petar - 07-06-2018 As far as I understood the nomenclature it's like this 603.9xx - 603 is the engine type of course, the first number is always 9, the second number means significant internal differences. For instance 91x is naturally aspirated, 96x turbocharged, 97x is 3.5 turbocharged. The last number seems to be small external differences dependent on the chassis it was installed in. Ok thanks Petar, there doesn’t appear to have been much in the way of of upgrades to the internals of the 3L 603 turbo version other than the cylinder head upgrades. Mostly wondered if there were upgrades to the lower engine internals. But looks like they stayed pretty much the same, at least as far as eairler turbo engines compared to later turbo engines.
