OM 606 FJ 45 Fan Relocation - zeeman - 10-10-2020 In working on a customers Toyota FJ 45 I found the stock location for the engine fan was to low and offset for the stock radiator. Just sharing a solution I came up with , may help others with the same issue. I used a Mercedes gas engine fan relocation bracket bearing that has the same fan setup as the OM 606 with the center bolt, as well as DieselpumpUK's alternator relocation bracket and small water pump pulley. RE: OM 606 FJ 45 Fan Relocation - Nick S - 10-11-2020 Great solution Zeeman, thanks for sharing! RE: OM 606 FJ 45 Fan Relocation - AlanMcR - 10-11-2020 Quite clever. Seems like there will be a problem with routing the top radiator hose though. RE: OM 606 FJ 45 Fan Relocation - 50harleyrider - 10-11-2020 Clean setup. Wish I had room for the oe fan in my conversion. Long engine = electric fans in front of radiator only RE: OM 606 FJ 45 Fan Relocation - zeeman - 10-11-2020 AlanMcR Quite clever. Seems like there will be a problem with routing the top radiator hose though.I will be running a 90 degree tube out of the head. Already solved that. Obviously this is still in the mock up stage. Long engine = electric fans in front of radiator onlyI have never had much luck with electric fans unless they were a factory style as in the late JK jeeps, and they even have cooling issues. It is sometimes a lot of work to run the OEM fan but there is nothing worse then a vehicle that over heats. Especially on an off road vehicle. The brushless fans found on many Mercedes do a good job, but they draw a ton of current. Modern pickup trucks that are designed to operate at full power for extended periods while towing heavy loads all have mechanical fans with electronic clutches. RE: OM 606 FJ 45 Fan Relocation - vica153 - 10-12-2020 Electric fans are nice. A proper apocalypse proof FJ45 can't have any electronics though. Air starter? RE: OM 606 FJ 45 Fan Relocation - AlanMcR - 10-12-2020 The thinnest MB fan I found was the 650W version which is 3.5" thick. To thick to even fit where the stock OM606 fan goes in the G. |
