Horn performance
The tank is already mounted in the trunk and the horns are ready to install. I'm just waiting for the compressor so I can run new 3/8" hose to the tank and wire it up.
As a side benefit I'll have 125psi onboard air for air tools and airing up tires (local stations charge 75c for air!)
A Viair 380C, electric. Its rated for 100% duty cycle at 100psi.
I don't need a 1/2" gun for 81lb/ft of lug torque, thats why I'll get a 3/8" gun.
Everything is in and it works great!
It sounds better in person, audio is not my camera's strong point.

A light on the cluster tells me when the pump is on and both the pump and horns can be switched off using a DPST switch on the center console.
I took the pressure switch off an old 2hp DeWalt compressor and enlarged the air passages between the ports. This switch lets me fine tune the on/off pressures and not cycle the main relay as often. I was hoping to set the pressure higher than 110psi but any more than that and the horn valve won't open!
It was a battle, and not one I'd look forward to repeating, but now that its installed I'm happy with the results.
I got my horns mounted and the air lines run. Just waiting to hit the pullapart tomorrow to get a wiring harness for the horn switch I grabbed last time. I have the switch mounted in the little tray infront of the shifter, looks stock. Pics tomorrow when the suns out. It was super loud unmounted, but it seems a bit weak now that its on the car, but maybe thats because I can only get 75psi at the local gas station. The free air back in Athens went up to 200...
I got the fanfare horns off the euro 380SEL for free! The plastic is cracked on both but salvageable with some epoxy. Since all the air horn stuff will be transferred to the 300, I'll put these on the 240 (assuming they work, I haven't tested them yet.)
Does anyone know anything about this burly horn? It was in the engine bay of an 84 300SD.
Ah, the alarm horn. Does anybody have a video/sound clip of it?
The fanfare horns are DOA, both sound like a strangled duck.
That 84 300SD may have a good engine, 3 of the 4 glowplugs I pulled from it were dead.
