Hey all i just got a 79 240d and was wondering what will it take to install a om606 turbo engine?

You can used the W126 M103 or OM603 engine mounts + 3*10mm thick plates ( two exhaust side one intake ) proven method.

I suspect ( and I could be wrong ) that M110 ( 2.8L inline 280TE W123 ) are the same as the M103/M104/OM603/OM606 Bolt Pattern

Also have to use a transmission that matches M10X, OM60X the current box wont work.

Maybe custom driveshaft and at least a OM603 pump & glow plug relay.

Yeah the W123/W126 used old style shock mounts and the W210 used pneumatic one-piece mounts (W201/W124 Style). Also have different positioning of the engine/transmission for each chassis. The Proven Method is also said to have tight clearance between the subframe/oilpan. I suspect that the bolt patten on the block for the mount bracket is the same as a W123 M110 as the OM603/OM606 (maybe 602/605 but 601 is like a M102 triangle instead of a rectangular shape) which might provide proper engine/gearbox position in the engine bay.

I also believe that a W123 M110 transmission would also work.

Yea he also started with a 6 cylinder gas car so it may be the original 5spd transmission with the LH starter

I'm not sure witch engine mount's he used but the engines are about the same length so transmission placement should be similar?

tryin to think one step at a time....could maybe get away with the slushbox that comes with the om606, but i haven't invested any time in determining whether or not there's a bolt on option for a 6 speed manual.

There is a bolt on 5 sleed for the 606. Use either a 190 m102 8vlv, m103 12v or the best option a getreg m102 16vlv tranny. All bolt up.

I have currently on my 603 the m102 8vlv 5 speed.

Some one was thinking the 6spd from a 230 kompressor may fit? but I'll be happy with a 5spd some day!

Yes the 6 speed from the w203 c230 m111, will fit any om60x. Of course you have to play around with the flywheel, and clutch issue, but it can be fitted.

Also on a side note few other people were being concerned in how tough the 6speed actually is. After all it was matted onto a motor that produced, 190hp, and possibly 230NM. So any om with an upgrade turbo and extra fueling could start mangeling up this tranny.

Your best bet is to stick with the getreg from the 16v,.

As 6-cyl cdi Mercs are practically all automatic, there is no decent oem flywheel-clutch setup available. No OM60x clutches are of help either. Sprinter clutches have been used, but I wanted mine to get the best bang for the buck, considering this is a daily driver.

Yes. Any stock CDI passenger car clutch setup would fit physically.

Nah, I dont think the M110 mounts will fit the 606...

The M110 mounts are much the same as the OM.617 mounts and I dont think these fit the 606 either...

You need mounts from a W126 300SE and use spacers....

Nah, I dont think the M110 mounts will fit the 606...

The M110 mounts are much the same as the OM.617 mounts and I dont think these fit the 606 either...

You need mounts from a W126 300SE and use spacers....
