did a quick search, looks like this is some sort of rack sensor found in 85 specific IPs...

A benign electromagnetic sensor for emissions. Does not effect a thing.

Also found on many '84s.

I capped mine off by filling the cover plate with JBweld and slapping directly onto the pump housing.

It makes pump timing much easier due to increased access to that third bolt between the engine and IP.

I capped mine off by filling the cover plate with JBweld and slapping directly onto the pump housing.

It makes pump timing much easier due to increased access to that third bolt between the engine and IP.
