The rear diff in my1987 300sdl is going out I think?

It's make bad clunking noises while turning

I'm also converting it to a 6spd manual I will have 5 normal range gears and one over drive gears so I would like a taller rear end ratio to use the extra gears and increase my top speed

Currently it has a 2.88 rear end I would like a 2.47-260ish rear end and I would also like to find out what the ASD is or if there are any LSD options and what they came in so I can keep my eye out for one at the pick and pull yards

Is the ASR a full time LSD or is it electronically locking? I read somewhere there was some wiring involved is converting this over?

What has to be changed to swap the 210mm diff in to an older w126? is it as easy as swamping the whole rear sub frame/axles?

ASR is an OPEN differential. ARS only applies the brakes individually for traction control and applies the Anti-lock-Brake sequence in the ABS-system. See picture of how to identify a ASR diff. It has two wires coming out from the top of the diff case.

I have not done this subframe swap, but I would assume it will bolt on. The only issue would be to install new anchor bolt holes for the relocation of the rear mount which now moves from the center mounting position to a an off center mounting position. See picture above.

BTW - I have a 2nd Gen 2.47 LSD, you can have it for crazy dollars.Big Grin
