05-16-2012, 05:17 PM #1Picked these wheels up today, figured what the hell since they were certainly cheap enough. Anyway, they don't have any info on them other than 16X7, and DOT-T, and then some max load number and a couple other random letters. Don't even have offset marked on them.

I checked them out (without tires obviously) and it looks like I'm not gonna have any real problems with them. They fit right up, and looked good. I might have to roll the fenders a little more just to make sure they don't rub though. (funny thing is the front are rolled already and the back aren't, so one of the previous owners must have done it?)

I would maybe see if you can like a black lip around them. Might help with the edges so you dont have to re chrome them or something, Maybe all black wheels, that would be cool

I was thinking about getting them powder coated close to what the stock bundts were like, and then having them put a clear coat over that, so it will be super durable and hopefully super easy to clean, especially if I get ceramic brake pads

On another note, I talked to my powder coating guy earlier. He said he had a guy check them for cracks, balance, and roundness, and they were all fine, and all of the wheels took quite a bit of weight, especially the bent one. So from that I can gather that a) the tires were really out of balance and they did a poor job mounting them, and b) they bent my wheel. I'm gonna go try and squeeze some money out of them this week to either pay to get the wheel fixed and re-coated, or buy me a replacement wheel, and if they don't I'm reporting them to the California BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair), of which my friend's grandpa used to be president of before he retired
I'll try to get a closer pic of the wheels in a little bit

I'm just happy I was able to get them on the car, and that there didn't seem to be any real vibration issues or anything when I took the car for a test drive (up to 85+ mph, around the top 5-10 mph it felt a little funky though)

I went to America's Tire, which I am never returning to regardless, because I had other issues while I was there, like them not wanting to put the wheels I drove over there on back on the car because they thought they "weren't safe", and I had to make a point that unless they wanted my car on their lift indefinitely they needed to put them back on, and a bunch of stuff like that.

Yes those are Centras and you will have a challenge finding center caps as the caps weren't top quality and they deteriorate before the rest of the wheel. Sets of these used to show up on eBay regularly for cheap due to funky center caps.

In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )

I'm thinking if I could fins some blank center caps that would be sweet, or something that could easily be modified. The center area is about 7-7/8" across, so I need a center about 8-1/4" to 8-1/2" or so I think, and then I could just attach some kind of tab in the back to fit into the groove in the wheel, and drill a hole for an allen head screw or something to hold them on

It looks like they are attached via the hub hole.
Maybe you can come up with something like that if your going custom to attach the cap.
On another note, The VW new Beatle center caps are about 7 3/4 or 200mm. It might work modified with the logo stripped off.

Here is a front and back of a Cadillac center, I'm trying to see if I can find some blank ones, or even some baby moons or whatever that I can just sort of shove in there, anything to cover the lugs and hub sticking through. Hopefully I am able to find something with a bit of an overlap so it looks more like its supposed to, then I can always drill holes in the middle and steal the stars off my other wheels (already tried the caps from those ones, too small)
