luggage rack mod
luggage rack mod
I was wondering if anyone has cut down the estate roof rack to fit on a sedan or coupe.
I think this would be a great look for the roof or the deck lid.
Anyways, if you agree that it'd look cool, let me know. I've got one for sale.

I asked about this too once upon a time I think, I think it would be pretty sweeet
I think it'd be the tits! That's why I'm putting it out there. I'd hate to send all that chrome to the scrapyard. Its the perfect candidate for an awesome, factory looking mod.

Also, might wanna try checking out West Marine, I know I found a bunch of railing on there before that could have been used to make a pretty kick-ass roof rack
OK -- I think I am going to grab the luggage rack when I hit the yard in a few days -- that assumes it is still there.
Has anyone ever seen a 300D Sedan with the luggage rack. I think it would look very cool.
The problem for me is that the stock rack is pretty inferior to all the gutter mount options out there when it comes right down to it. Plus the gutter stuff is removable, so you end up with a great rack that does nothing to the car itself and can be stronger and more useful.
I do think a nice chrome stock looking rack would look great though. I just recently went through this with my old VW, which does not have the nice gutters that most of the old MBs have, and I ended up putting in a generic roof rack with nutserts, looked great all said and done, but required 12 holes in the roof.
That's the part I see being an issue ... drilling holes in the roof makes me pretty skiddish. I am going to grab it anyway and tinker with it. The one at the yard looks flawless. Not sure why the car is in the yard anyway ... looks immaculate inside. EXCEPT the weirdo green paint on the engine block which suggests C4C ... what a shame ... I will throw up some snappies when I get all the goodies off the 300TD wagon, 1985' 300 with trap oxidizer and odd ball intake manifiold.
