So to make a long story short. I have a 79 300D that im stuffing a turbo 617 with a manual 4 speed ( full aluminum housing) in. I read around that I would need a 240D auto crossmember which I got from flebay. Today I go to mount the trans and I discover that all crossmembers (300D auto, 240D auto, 240D manual) dont fit and sit way to far back.

300D auto crossmember

240D autocrossmember(supposedly)

I will have a full conversion build thread later on when Im closer to completion.

Alohas and thanks for your help

P.S. hopefully the pics load.

The two pairs of bolt holes you should be using are visible in your pic. Move the anchor clips to the closer holes.

Also as you can see that the tunnel gets wider the closer I get to the front of the car. The crossmembers are to short to reach the holes if I go any farther forward. Moving the anchor clips wont solve the problem but I know I will have to if I find the right crossmember.

If I where to do that I would make a custom mount and not chop up any mounts. I will have to find the proper offset of the mount and then weld up something.

I was under the impression from reading numerous 4 speed swap threads that I would need a 240D auto crossmember but that didnt work out so well as you can see in the pics. Unless someone sold me the wrong mount.

The 240d auto crossmember is wide enough for the 4 closer holes.

As you can see the 2 mounts in the pictures are the wrong ones. So I think I will custom make a Crossmember and see how it goes. Also I cant seem to find pics or anything on Flebay about a correct crossmember.

That mount you stated that's a 240d auto mount in the second picture doesn't look like a 240d auto mount. The first pic kind of looks like it.

I found this picture comparing the mounts. The 300 auto mount has a bar attached to it for use on the 4 speed manual.

Btw- I can grab an 240d auto mount at my local yard if your interested. Pm me.

Well I ordered a mount from www.mercedespartscenter.com and they where really helpful. You usually need a VIN number for your orders but they let me slide.

So today I got my mount from Germany from the Manufacturer. Cost me only $109 wish shipping. I know its a little steep but you cant beat brand new.

Part number is 123 242 07 01 just in case the picture is crap.

Alohas everyone and I will make a new thread with the whole swap once its done. SOOOON i Hope
