Basically got my dream car this weekend (at least the most affordable car on that extremely long list)

Some goods:
-low mileage, 110k
-straight body
-freshly rebuilt engine (old one got burned up when a PO kept driving after the water pump failed, the guy I got it from put a rebuilt one in he bought from a shop)
- sheer awesomeness

Some bad shit:
-been sitting for unknown time (guessing 5-10 years)
-window seals are bad on front and back, --> moisture has caused corrosion on vents and instrument cluster and radio and climate control, so those need to be replaced.
-rear seat needs to be either replaced or re-covered
-needs belts and hoses ans filters and stuff (as expected)
-leaking transmission fluid
-oil pan needs replacing
-missing front driver side carpet

Other than that I'm pretty stoked, probably gonna save most of the work for when I don't have a job and have a lot of free time haha

In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )
-1974 240D, FRESH PAINT!!!!!!

Thanks man!! Its dark blue interior. The front seats are okay, and the passenger and rear carpet seem okay, but the rear seats are all cracked and rotted, the carpet by the rear window is faded, and the driver's seat has no carpet at all. I'll post some more pictures once I take some with a real camera.

Okay got the oil pan changed today, and new oil and filter. Also put in all new fuses since they were all wrong and corroded.

Next weekend I'm gonna try to get all the bulbs replaced, then I'll probably have to start tracking down electrical gremlins if I don't have lights all around.

For some reason the car doesn't seem to want to rev above about 3500rpm, and dies if you try to keep it revved up, so I guess I'll try changing fuel filters and see if that helps any

In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )

Don't run seafoam in it. Never use an alcohol based fuel treatment on diesel. The can says it is "safe" but every pump guy I have ever talked to says not to get near the stuff.

I dont buy that stuff simply based on the price Wink
I use a bit on trans fluid in the crankcase before an oil change like the old timers did.

Rusted out beat down 300d turbo 82' -- RIP
Nice body, tons of ridiculous mechanical issues - 300d turbo 82' /motor 85'

So I went to change the fuel filters last weekend and the fuel in the canister filter was a little cloudy looking, so I ended up disconnecting the return line and stuck it into an extra 20 gallon drum I had laying around in the back yard and let her idle until she started to sputter then I shut her down (too lazy to have to bleed air from injector lines lol). Anyway, that fuel must have been in there since the 90's or something since it smelled about like turpentine and was slightly off color. Anywho I've got a barrel of turpentine-like stuff now I'll surely find some use for. I'm gonna check out the tank filter and see what's up with it this weekend, maybe I can get her cleaned out and the other filters changed, some fresh diesel, and see what's up. Maybe I'll try out some of that diesel-purge stuff if I can find me some before them, maybe clean some crap out of the IP. So hopefully after I get the engine to where it doesn't die I can get all of the missing bulbs replaced (which is all of the marker lamps) and if they're all working good new tires after that. We'll see what happens

Sounds good. Sell that junky fuel to someone with an industrial motor who doesn't care if it's a little old.

larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?

Pulled the tank and cleaned it yesterday, pretty sure somebody poured salt water in there at some point. Anyway, it should be all good now, just neef to put it back in and change the fuel filters up front and hopefully it won't stall anymore

I also cleaned the sending unit, the float was stuck about 1/3 from the bottom because the shaft was crazy rusty, but it moves freely now

Bam, got the tank back in, got the filters changed, also I'm pretty sure the supply and return lines got switched up in the engine compartment so I switched those, and now the car revs higher than it did before and doesn't stall out after keeping it revved up, so I guess that's a good thing. I guess now I just need to get the running lights in order and it should be good to go more or less (good enough for a couple test drives anyway until I get it registered).

Everything interior or electrical on this car is fucked, I am pissed off. I had not intended to rebuild this car from the ground up but it looks like I'm gonna have to. So irritated right now

Electrical just get a some brown scotchbrite from the hardware store, some electric contact cleaner, and a tube of dielectric grease. Spend an evening hitting the grounds and other nearby connections then you're set. Also grab brass fuses (assuming it still has the crappy aluminum ones)

It's not that bad, just a couple hours.
