Questions about an om617 project
Questions about an om617 project
I'm currently working on an om617 superturbo project and have been reading up a lot about pumps and turbos and want to clarify some stuff. Pretty sure I've ready sourced an 'm' pump and going to have it sent to dieselmeken. Now I need a bigger turbo and intercooler.
It looks like people are using the hx35s? The om617 is a t3 flange so this would bolt up if it is a t3 flange correct?
Also what types of intercoolers are everyone using?
Any other modifications that I might be missing?
My goal is around 200hp and it will be bolted up to an ax-15 transmission and put in a 92 isuzu pickup.

Thanks for the advice surfrodder but I should have mentioned this isn't a wheeler or going off road.
This truck is lowered a lot and I'm planning on air ride soon but want to put the om617 first.
Ill check out the hx40 though. I don't know much of anything about turbos so any info is welcomed.
larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?
HX35 turbos are crazy cheap coming off cummins, so if $$ is an issue that's always an option. Make sure you're got pyrometer and exhaust pressure gauges installed pre turbo.

SurfRodder, don't you think he would be better off with a hy35 because of the tighter housing?
Should Help with lowend, but the wastegate should allow plenty of topend flow also.
Just my thoughts
The HY would get you off the line better. Just have Goran set the pump for the turbo. Soon, I'll be replacing my HY with an HX on my 01 Cummins. It'll need a rebuild (simple) $150 shipped if you want it.

(05-10-2013, 10:38 PM)Njdub I've found a few hx35s on ebay for a fair price and am thinking about pulling the trigger. I just need to tell goran which turbo I plan on using?

(05-09-2013, 07:08 AM)MFSuper90 SurfRodder, don't you think he would be better off with a hy35 because of the tighter housing?you're correct...generally a smaller exhaust housing is better on smaller engines like ours, I didnt even think about it as he was asking if the hx would work with a modified pump.

(05-08-2013, 04:27 PM)Njdub Just to make sure the hx35 with a t3 flange is what i want correct?Since I havent seen this addressed yet (maybe Im just being blind, tho):

Yes, both the HY and HX should have a T3 flange.

(05-16-2013, 03:48 PM)snowbrd84 So an hy35 will bolt up to the OM617??
I put an OM617.951 in my Jeep with a 3 speed auto. My off the line acceleration sucks until it gets a little boost. Would the hy35 spool up faster and be a better turbo ??
