606 swap accomplished !
Heya Clan STD !
Its alive ! ! Ive put 3,000 miles down so far. The swap-over from the 603 happened and has proven itself. I made brief introduction some months back and explained what I was doing. search: "Newbie Hello" thread if interested.
Im getting 20mpg , and many things need to be dialed, the current manual VNT thread going on seems tasty - it might apply to my project. The final hurdle I faced on getting the 606 motor working was the Frankensteining of the 603 and 606 turbos (now pressure controlled 606 turbo-not electronic). Currently I do have a working motor but I cant say that it is efficient or even close to being finished, It seems everything but the bottom end is a stop-gap. I am at the point where I need to permanantly install an Intercooler in place of the junkyard Volvo 760 IC that I zip-tied to the Bullbar for the last trip. I have decided on 350 HP as my power goal.
Now whats the best way to get the most out of a 350HP 3 liter 24 valve mercedes motor for a heavy assed G-wagen?
Looking forward to some new ideas.
Its good to be back

The largest intercooler you can reasonably fit and a custom exhaust manifold with an HX35 or HY35 would be a good starting point, then a Myna pump.
What boost psi do you have it set at now?
I'd start with fixing all other things like IP timing, boost, ALDA setting, filters, ... to start the hp-mods on a well running engine. 20 mpg i.e. shows that there are some issues.
Starting from the current situation might not show you the results of each single step of modification and you might end up not seeing the high hp.
Just my opinion.

Not at all. Control can be difficult but its not impossible to overcome. Since you're going to make your own manifold it would be very easy to use the flange of your choice.
Has anybody other than you done a VNT on a MB diesel ? I like your manually controlled VNT idea but reading the thread makes little sense to me with my LTD experience.
what type or make VNT , what size? would work best in my situation? Where can I read up on it?

That 606 has the most potiential of the inlines, good job! I'm going to see what I can do with the 617 and if it is not enough engine than I will step up to a 60X, what chassis do you have it in (12X) ?

Hey Krash,
I assume you're the same guy who was in Tahoe last month. I missed the event but heard about your engine swap from Steve S.
In any case, 20 mpg should be good. that's better than the G300DT gets (606 in newer G-wagen) and is better than Jeff G gets in his OM603 powered G-wagen.
Good luck! the added power would be nice to have in the G.

Its in a 463. Do you know of any European websites where I might find an already fabricated custom 606 exhaust manifold? Has anybody here ever dealt direct with Mayna?
Im looking for a similar turbo IP to use in the truck until Mayna can send mine back.
M pump - turbo, 5.5, anybody?
