I've just trashed the 2nd 606 head I had trying to remove stuck plugs.
I know they are cheap over here but this is frigging ridiculous
The problem on both occasions has been that it has been impossible to remove the hardened electrodes.. others seem to have been able to lever/ twist them out but that has proved impossible with whatever plugs were fitted to these heads... they just snap off in the plug which makes drilling/ tapping etc very difficult indeed.
I have only taken one out before on a 606, i used amilsil penetrating fluid over 2 weeks before hand then got her hot before attempting the extraction. Came out easily - Might have been lucky...

There is a writeup on PP, one guy made a hydraulic press that took the place of the injector and pushed the snapped GP out with a hydraulic pressure.

We see that from time to time here. I've had to fix other shops/guys mistakes with glow plugs many times. My go to method is to get the engine hot, pull the injector, valve cover, and injector tube. Take the prechamber ring out and get a slide hammer and pull the prechamber out (yes it will destroy the glow plug) Then get the guts out of the broken glow plug and tread it to 8 x 1.25 and use a small slide hammer to yank it out. Then chase the treads and put it back together. If you destroy the treads we Time-Sert it back to the correct size. 2-3 hours and your done.
As far as preventing the issue just get the engine hot and use a 3/8 impact gun CARFULLY to get the plugs out with a deep 12mm swivel. The action of a impact gun vs your ratchet is that the gun impacts the plug straight on vs you yanking off to the side with you ratchet while you try to loosen it.

The problem has been that the heads have been off the engine so no prospect of heating them up (I don't fancy the idea of a brazing torch either ).
Old story too - it was just at the point where I had *almost* got the last one out and I just rushed it.
What is a mystery is why others have found removing electrode easy.. If I had been able to do this I thing I would have drilled/ tapped OK.
Anyway, I bought another head 100K M this evening.. good news is that plugs are already out on this one.
Does anyone know MB tool # for reamer?
Could put it in the oven when the wife is not looking! heat it up on low

But depending on price and times you need to use it - probably more cost effective to leave it to a professional... after all it's a common std. repair, not something exotic...

I bought a new head which arrived last week, straight and plugs already removed.
So this afternoon, I though I didn't have anything to loose by having another go at the old head - what more could go wrong, right?
Anyway, after much effort, I managed to grind back the hardened electrode sufficiently, wound an M8 tap into the body of the plug and got a long prybar on it.. amazingly it came out and it looks like there is no damage to threads or much inside of the surface of the shaft. It seems that the hole I drilled didn't wonder as much as I had feared :-)
I then got to work on the other plug (with no snapped electrode). What I learned is that you have to be really careful with this; twisting movement is what gets the welded end to break free I found, not 'levering' or 'wiggling' - long nosed mole grip pliers certainly helped too.
So I now have 2 OM606 heads (well three if you count original trashed head).. hmm so maybe my W123 300TD should have an upgrade ;-)
