Because I sure as hell do now. My dad's '01 Ram 1500 in addition to needing new heads, crank position sensor, and paint, now needs a new throwout bearing, which means probably everything clutch related at the same time. And I'm sure if I thought about it for a while I could think of some other things wrong with it
I like the 5.9 cummins but its a million mile motor in a 100k mile truck vs fords 1 million mile truck with the 100k mile power joke
I would still take either over a Chevy any day of the week
larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?
Fullsize-get a Chevy but not the ones that require you to pull the hubs for a brake job. The new(2011) Silverado is a dream to work on I can sit in the engine bay.
Fords are nice too, except for the damn F150 has the engine half under the dash and is a bitch to work on. Plastic intake manifold? Yeah that's a good idea....
Chrysler gets really close but then the cost accounting kills them. Wifey's I6-awesome engine, one year they decided to lightweight the head. Bam, cracks on ALL 2001 I6 heads at around 90k. 4wd with solid axles, NP transfer case, 4link, awesome!! But let's put a stamped steel dana35 rear axle that bends when you look at it.
We need better emissions! Add an egr? Reprogram the ecu? Maybe a new cam design? Spec a 210°F thermostat to keep it hot hot hot....aaaand... let's stuff 2 cats literally 4 inches under the intake manifold and then add 5 heat shields to keep from setting the fuel rail on fire. Modern car that gets vapor locked on hot days. GJ Chrysler.
MMMM big SUV=under hood space? Let's tuck the steering box, radiator, trans cooler together with 1/2" clearance for wrenches. now there's plenty of visual space under the hood! If they had moved the radiator over 2", or just put the lower hose on the passenger side this would not be an issue.
Electric fan? Great! I won't overheat while spinning 3,500rpm in 4 low while wheeling. Let's put a cheapo under-rated relay BETWEEN THE HEADLIGHT AND FENDER LINER SO IT OVERHEATS AND FAILS.
While we're at it, don't change the fan shroud-we can't afford new molds so just leave the extra 5" of plastic to get in the way while doing the water pump for a 1" thick electric fan.
But then the good stuff...easy good cheap brakes, reusable trans pan gaskets, 4link suspension front & rear, easy dash to disassemble for radio/heated seat stuff, super easy headlight/tail light maintenance, oil changes are a dream-no jacks required even with stock wheels/suspension.
I love the Jeep, it's a great ride and has plenty of powah, but some things really piss me off while working on it.

Yeah this truck is the 3.9 V6, which sucks, because for all the 8- cylinder models you can get beefier Mopar performance heads that don't crack, but not the stupid 6-cylinder

Would it bolt right up or what? Also I suspect it wouldn't just be plug and play with all the electronics and mating them up to the computer in the car

6 cyl, 6 cyl....the trans and motor mounts would be the determining factor.

4bt would be just about perfect it's also a 3.9
If I could find one from a vehicle newer than the truck I would in a heartbeat because it would be legal in California

Seriously research the 4.0L. It's no race motor, but it moves the Heep around just fine. It's got to be better than the crappy v6 (no offense)

I hate the v6, and I'm totally down for an engine swap in this beast, but due to CARB regulations engine swaps in California are only legal on smog exempt vehicles (pre-74 or 76 or something) or the engine has to be swapped in from a newer model vehicle with all of its emissions components.

Yeah it just has to be newer. I should just find a newer diesel and put in it, it needs more diesel
