The following part number is for a generic 603.912...whatever that is.
Without a specific Vin number it's difficult if not impossible to provide an accurate part number.

however:- A603 030 06 05 is a single mass flywheel fitted to this engine.

Hi,

Yes

Price is 350-.eur + shipping

But I think the shipping to Usa cost a lot,it weights 2,2kg

That's only 5lbs, the size will be the issue shipping it

Where do you get a Tilton clutch disc hub that is splined for the MB input shaft?

Are they available for the long input shaft transmissions and the short input shaft 6 speeds?

I hadn't thought of that. I'm sure it can be done so long as the I.D. of the friction surface is small enough. Some of the clutches require a step (.1", IIRC) to be machined into the FW.

Those sintered metal 7.25 clutches will be unstreetable. The big question for me is: can you buy one of these used nascar clutches setup with the thin sintered metal discs and install thicker cerametallic or organic discs in it?

www.powertraintech.com makes a 7.25" 26 spline organic disc compatible with their stuff and Tilton clutches.

winmutt, you might also consider that the 606 FW the EDH linked to also allows the use of the 440 lb-ft capable Sachs 765 pressure plate. At 240mm, it should work with a 300e disc.

I agree, these clutches are totally streetable, and even more so with a diesel. Just like with any different clutch setup, or when driving one car for another, you will need to make small adjustments to your driving. Once you get used to them, which is a fairly short learning curve, I actually prefer their behavior.

You can also shift nearly twice as fast if need be due to the lower inertia of the disks, and they are more friendly to the transmission syncros.

They also last a long time as well, and the rebuilds are very cost effective. In addition, the metallic material's coefficient of friction increases when they warm up, unlike organic materials which the coefficient of friction decreases with increasing temperature, which can lead to a slipping clutch.

I say tomato, you guys say tomoto.

Some considerations:

Inline 6 engines have an inherent torsional vibration, not as bad as an I4, but worse than V6 or V8. Combine that with the super-low MOI of a 7.25 clutch and FW package and the lack of springs in the clutch plates and you will have a lot of NVH. Sporty? You bet. Loud? Check.

On/off switch. I've driven my share of aggressive clutches. Had a couple on daily drivers, got one on my motorcycle, and being both a car guy and a mechanic, I've gotten to drive lots of setups. I'm great at driving even the most miserable clutch, and by that measure, they're streetable. Do I want to back out of my steep driveway, which requires me to slip the clutch all the way to the top, every day? Does my fiancee want to drive it? Does my mother want to drive it? Will it get on my nerves in a traffic jam? Do I, at the age of 39, need to put up with that shit when I can just go out and buy a B5 Audi S4, an E39 M5 or maybe a 996? While I haven't ruled it out, I approach the idea of a 7.25" clutch with a lot of caution. I do know sintered metal is out. I don't even like it on my mountain bike brakes.

Who wants to drive 600hp smoking and screaming monsterdiesel to work every day? The reality of my situation is that my mom and my wife need to drive my car on occasion when I'm working on their diesels. 550-600nm seems to be a reasonable limit for the Mercedes IDI powerplants and yet still have "nice" car to depend on.

I'm not criticizing the choices you've made in building your car and I love reading build threads on such machines. It's just been my personal experience that building a car like ones I've seen on internet forums that everyone is jealous of can be a disappointing experience once you realize first hand how hard they are to live with.

It "should" be as the 26 spline generally refers to GM, which is the right diameter and number of splines for Mercedes Big Grin Good price but rough looking disks and floater plates. Likely needs a rebuild.

Warning to others! Confused

All good, save for not getting a flywheel from _siim_. Simo, where are you? You have quite a lot of my money for awhile now, and I would really appreciate it if you would send me the flywheels. Contact me.

Man, I'm sorry to hear. I hope it works out.

I just ordered a steel FW to fit the sachs 618 or 765 clutch from www.blingfactory.fi. I'll post in this thread how the transaction turns out.

I believe it's the same FW from bakaxel.se that EDH linked to above. Blingfactory claims to be the manufacturer of their flywheels and since bakaxel wants ~100 euro more, I'm assuming bakaxel is a reseller.

So do I, but I have news that he stopped working at Schmiedmann Finland just last week, right around the time when communication stopped. I was communicating regularly with him, as he was using his work email, the Schmiedmann one throughout, acting as an agent of the company in effect. Then, a few days ago, the email stopped working, and I got a message of failure to deliver Confused

Their website: www.schmiedmann.fi

I was going to get one of those, they look quite nice, and was ready to pull the trigger, until I saw what Siim was selling. Bad choice it seems Angry

I think I will get a clutch like this too, but I am not shure if this 26 spline will fitt, because i can not find 26 spline with 1 1/8 inch from tilton. Will the 26 spline 1 5/32 inch from Tilton fitt?

The mercedes gearboxes have 1 1/8 inch or?

It is just a GM specification or just how they write it for GM applications. Perhaps, it is a historic measurement.

not balanced, not machined to your specs of clutchdisk. They come in different thickness you know.
Why not order a original gas flywheel and have it machined and balanced to your exact specs? it would be cheaper to.
I think i paid 400 euro for mine balanced, machined, stitched to my specs including a brand new sachs 765 performance pressure plate.

another thing,no one doesn't build 600hp smoking and screaming monsterdiesel to his mom,ok maybe few fins but not the normal guys.

I showed my mom the black smoke racing video. she said hell yeah she would drive that....Tongue I guess where not a normal family.

I didn't balance my 16v flywheel. Just stuck it on there. I'm sure it's a neutral balance because the engine is still balanced.

If this transaction falls through, I'll get my current fw modded. As far as disc thickness, that will be sorted before I bolt it in. The 765 pressure plate alone will cost me almost what you've got in your whole setup. Congrats.

No, it need to be a zerobalance flywheel. because its a singelmass and a lowrpm diesel you wont notice it as much but you will stress your inputbearing in gearbox. All 765 sachs plates are zerobalanced.
i can provide both balanced and moded flywheel and 765 plate for you from sweden. have a guy that sells flywheel of my specs including 765 for around 400 euro. just need a singelmass core. i will offcourse do it for free. offcourse you need gearbox that fits a singelmass fw but because mercedes gearboxes suck you most likely have to modify a bmw gearbox and then you can put the inputshaft at desired hight from housing.
Hate to see you spending money down the drain. you still need to have your new finish flywheel machined acording to your clutch plate specs so moore money will be plowed down in it.
Still, its not very expensive for a brand new flywheel.

Neutral balance=zero balance.

Thank you for the offer, I'll keep it in mind. I'd like to have to have the blingfactory FW since it will be heavier than a modded 16v flywheel. The gear rollover in my gearbox already sounds like a dump truck. Reducing mass will only make it worse. I've already paid for the FW and I can't make other plans until the flywheel either shows up or 45 days passes without delivery.

I've got a long input shaft Getrag 275 "Z" from a 16v. I think it will hold up.

Since you need to machine your flywheel, its not balanced anymoore. Or find a clutch with exact specs of 765

Edit. And you have to put a starterring on and that will ad up.

Dont you have a tirebalancer to test it on?
