How to build a solid 4cyl diesel?
Take one awesome om604 engine. Put stronger rods and pistons in it, straighten and balance the crank, weigh all rods and pistons, get crazy camshafts to it and machine the pistons for clearance then send the pistons of for coating. Modify a BMW flywheel to fit the Mercedes crank and tadaaa you have a solid 4cyl 16v diesel.
Dieselmeken will build the IP.

Look at the subject 2-liter...

(01-04-2015, 10:32 AM)raysorenson Would you mind sharing the cam specs?
(01-04-2015, 11:00 AM)Petar What bore and stroke ? My guess is OM601 84mm stroke crank and 87mm 606 turbo pistons.Did you resleeve the engine for the smaller bore ?
Not at all.
Intake:
Centerline 112-degrees
Duration 280-degrees
Lift 10,6mm
TDC lift 1,7mm
Exhaust:
Centerline 112-degrees
Duration 280-degrees
Lift 10,6mm
TDC lift 1,6mm
This is what we call Stg2 cams. So nothing special at all.

Thanks for the info. Doing research for a 603 cam.
Is that duration @1.0mm lift?

You never learn enough
I have no clue actually and that is a valid question. I'm NOT the camshaft guy really. I don't know anything of how that piece works. I just know from being in the flow bench that you need a little bit of lift to get good numbers.
The cam-guy we use calculate on stuff like this. Maybe it's time to learn

This looks like a very interesting project. I can't wait to hear/see how well it runs.
Will you be using aftermarket connecting rods? I certainly hope so - with the fueling potential of the Dieselmeken pump and what I suppose may be 2.5 bar of boost or so, the upgraded rods would be a nice insurance policy.
Steve.
(01-08-2015, 02:12 PM)erling66 Why do you want to reduce bore and stroke? Bore, I guess is because you want to use 605/6 turbo pistons. But stroke??? Normally more ccm means more hp.

The engine will race in a 2-liter class AND it's pretty hard to find a tougher rod the same length as a 2.2-liter rod.

(01-09-2015, 06:24 AM)Hario I would suggest you'll need around 4 or 5 turbos to achieve your power goals.
Ohhh no we're not aiming for 1550whp so we'll manage with one for now and two later on...

Do you have a plan for when this engine should be running?

Maybe you are correct regarding the rod length but still only a 26mm wrist pin We use the 606dt rods in this application (for now).
I have a set off each rods in the shop so will actually measure them
I hope we can have this beauty up and running in the middle of february. Will break it in gently @ 6000rpm in the engine dyno hahahha...

, remove the bicycle and tow bar, and then go chase a Land Speed Record.

I just love that picture!!! There will be NO competition on that bed off salt when Team Green Frog arrives.

Brilliant thread F.R.A.S,
What coating are you putting on the pistons...ceramic on top and Teflon on the sides?
Are you doing any modification to the pre chambers?

The coating looks good....I presume they were done in Sweden?
How much per piston?

Thanks, the old om606.962 pistons looks like new
Full coating (skirt and top) is 1000sek/piston. And yea, made in Sweden
The pistons are also machined for more valve clearance before coating.

Did you put in bigger vale or just want lower compression ratio?

More lift so only took some for clearance.
