I'm trying to find out the 1-5 and final drive ratios for a Euro-spec Mercedes "Vito" 5-speed front-wheel drive transaxle.

MB # A6382601800

Getrag # 711698 080258

As always, any information would be appreciated.

Idk nothing about Vito gearboxes but I think a Getrag 6-speed transaxle from a Mini Cooper S would suit you well.

GS6-85BG

They were even available (not here) mated to a diesel so I'd assume that gearbox would be best.

The thing that's nice about the Vito gearbox is that it would be a direct bolt-up to an OM60x block.

I will look into the Mini Cooper S box, also, as well as the GM F-40 6-speed gearboxes.

I have the Mercedes EPC, but still haven't found the Vito gear ratios.

Steve.

The Mini Cooper diesel 6-speed gearbox gives an effective drive ratio of 2.41:1 in 6th gear which is pretty good. My current 4-speed setup is 2.47:1. A "taller" ratio would be even better for Bonneville.

So far I've found this quote from a Daimler press release:

"Its defining feature is a particularly broad gear ratio spread, with a short first gear (i=5.076) and a long sixth gear (i=0.675) designed to keep the engine speed low."

But, this is for the 6-speed...

The newer model Vito's (I think where the 6 speed is available) is rear wheel drive as well. I need to find a FWD transaxle design with the longest top gear readily available.

My current VW 4-speed has a 0.71 4th gear and a 3.48 ring and pinion, giving an effective final drive of 2.47.

For the next project, I really want to find something with an even "longer" (numerically lower) final drive.

The F40 6-speed transaxle has a 0.62 6th gear and a 3.55 R&P, which yields a 2.20 effective final drive. That's a good number.

I don't know the ratios but i rode in a Vito 110 CDI a couple of months ago and if i remember i correctly it turned a bit under 3000rpm at 120Kph. 120 Kph is something like 75 Mph.

Hi Petar, I just read your post regarding Vito 638 Manual ratios.
All the following are to 1. (:1)
1st: 4.25
2nd: 2.35
3rd: 1.46
4th: 1.03
5th: 0.813
FD: 3.947 (A6382601000, A6382601800 & A6382602200) (108cdi)
FD: 3.842 (A6382602400 & A6382602000) (110cdi)
FD: 3.737 (A6382601900 & A6382602300) (112cdi)
You looking for a taller final drive ratio? Go for a 112cdi gearbox. You will need to correct the speedo via MB Star diagnostic machine.
Cheers.

The FWD 604 powered 1999 Vito my friend had (UK spec) was transverse, you're talking about a north-south engine & FWD transaxle & OM60x Vito?

Installed:

OM606/722.6, big IC, W220 brakes.
Planned:
DIY manifold, compound, 722.6 controller, built IP.
[i]Less rust..

Jetmugg,
I'm bringing this thread back from the dead because of an oddly configured car that I recently learned about here in the USDM.
Its a longitudinally oriented (north/south) inline 5 cylinder engine with a 5 speed manual transmission and FWD...the Acura Vigor! It had a nearly 50/50 weight ratio despite having a 2.5L 20V slant 5 & FWD.
Info isn't exactly easy to find but it may be worth looking into for a 5 speed transaxle solution.

Lots of the European VW / Audi stuff is north south & fwd, less parts differences between the 4wd versions I guess.

What about the gearbox from a Renault master TD? It's north/south, cheap and strong (people use them for Ultima kit cars over here).

I think Jetmugg needs a transverse transaxle, not a longitudal one. But anyway he already decided on using VW TDI six speed rewelded to mercedes pattern, i think FRAS already made it.
