Question: would a pump from a '93 2.5L be an M pump that could be used on a 617? This'd be from a 5 cylinder non-turbo motor.

my understanding is that the om61x and om60x have a different way of attaching the injector pump and it makes them uncompatible. i know the pump off a 83 601 will not fit a 80 om616.

hello fine people,
well here it is, 616 engine uses a bosch inline type A, a strange thing, have seen some but never messed with it,
617 can be either fitted the MW or the M, being the M versions used in europe in the N/A versions. in the US and other markets u can find cars with a 617N/A engine but that was not the MB plan as the 617A was specially developed for the US market.
time went on and the 617A became used in various rigs being the last one the G wagons. both the late 123/126 and G´s N/A use the M pump.
The 60X series all use the M pump , but with a diff installation flage. the governor in the M pump is the RSF type oposed to the MW wich is a RSV , besides that there is the RQV and manny diff types/functionalities of governor, but all based on the RQV/RSV/RSF.
what is amasing is that even when a electronic governor was needed the pump is still a M, so many of the parts are common to all pumps.
the 617 flange M pump have a diff crank , and a slightly diff governor rendering the use of the other governors posible.
the 602/5 flange M pumps can be used in any 5 cylinder engine including the 617, as long as the necessary mods have been done.
and daddadaa daddada.....
the info writen here is of my knowlege wich migh be subject to error.
regards

Now I thought that the W123 617s used a MW pump? Mine doesn't look like a M pump from the pictures I have seen. Mine is an 85

All 617s had MW pumps apart from 1980 onwards NA engines outside of USA. M and MW are interchangable of course

60xs all have M pumps, last year for MW would've been 1985 I guess (or Jan '86)

1978 300D, 373,000km... OM617.912 with a Holset HX30W, 7.5mm IP, 711.113 5 speed (project car, 7 years off the road and counting ;/)
1977 250 270,000km (parts car)
1977 300D (ex 280) 500,000km

1981 240D 498,000

i belive the N/A version wasn´t sold in US by MB, might find some imported by anyother means wich is not uncommon.
not sure about it.... something i read in a mb advertizement flyer.
