om605 w460 G wagen
Hello there, this is my first post in the forums. I've been reading through a lot through the posts lately and have ultimately resolved to post my own questions. I recently bought a 460 G wagen with a turbo om605 abd 717.460 in it. The carruns well in low rpms but struggles in the upper band. It will do 50 on flat surfaces. I don't think it even gets close to the 150hpitshould be producing. It lacks engine braking and when floored, gives out a little black smoke through the entire rev range. It has a rebuilt (2 months ago) Gt25c. Pump is om602, but I'm not sure about element size. My guess is retarded ip timing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Yes that definitevely sounds like someone who didn't know what he was doing tampered with the IP. Black smoke and lack of power suggest wrong timing. Even with 0 boost the 605 should get the g wagen to at least 100kph. The reason that it won't return to idle is the adjustment of the pump although that shouldn't be relevant. After you fix the power problem i can explain in detail how to fix the return to idle.
Awesome, thank you very much. I'll take down the pump this weekend and adjust timing. Factory specs are pump at tdc and cylinder 1 at 14º ATDC. Should I set it to stock settings or advance to 11 or 12 ATDC like most superpukps run to allow more time for the combustion to take place?
I really doubt it. The turbo was rebuilt 2 months ago and on installation all manifolds were cleaned. I will check the exhaust just to be sure but it was also cleaned. Wouldn't reduced airflow increase EGT a lot by highback pressure and incomplete combustion?
I have done a w460 build with om605, it has a gt20 as original.
Used a rebuildt om602 pump with 6mm plungers.
Easly spinns tires when giving full throttle,
1,5bar boost, guessing close to 200hk.
Maby your pump is one the wrong stroke? Its a 50/50 chance it gets wrong if you are not sure how its done. The car will run, but not wery good.
