Help me adjust my setup on my OM606
Hi guys,
So my OM606 swap works in my W463, runs and drives fine, makes decent power.
Currently here is my setup:
- OM603 8MM elements 220cc
- Holset HX40W - Boosting around 2.3 bar (34PSI)
Now here is my issues rendering me unsatisfied as a daily driver.
- Turbo Lag
- Mega black smoke blocking out traffic behind
My thinking to eliminate the above are the following:
- Smaller turbo
- Switch back to my OM606 EDC pump and tune using Baldur's DSL1 ECU
I would like to achieve the following:
- 350 to 400 RELIABLE HP
- Have minimal turbo lag
- Have a smooth idle (I sound like I have cams now)
What would be the ideal turbo I should go for? Holset HX35W? Holset HX35/HY30 hybrid? VGT? Which VGT or VNT turbo?
Whats the CC I should tune on the EDC pump? 90cc, 100cc or what cc? How many CCs are my stock 6mm elements good for?
Thanks guys.

The mechanical pump is too smokey for my taste. I heard the electronic pump is very tunable and has great smoke control with Baldur's ecu. I have a top Mount manifold with a T4 outlet, wonder what I can do with that for a twin turbo.
First you need 7.5mm elements, doesn't matter if mech or EDC pump. 8mm is for 600hp+ and with less power than that it's pointless to use them. Just making crazy knocking noise and more smoke. You need maybe 140cc for 400hp but you get 180-190cc from 7.5mm pump. It doesn't matter how big turbo you have, with baldur ecu and right setting you are smokeless or almost smokeless anyway.

TThanks for the input. That is actually my thread and it kind of turned into the way of telling my setup is bad. I know that, I want to know suggestions regarding improvement.

Sorry I didn't notice that it was your thread. I made 370hp with HY35 and small 8cm housing, I've had both HX40 and HY35 and HY35 spooled way better than HX40, not even comparable. But 8cm housing is small, egt was too high but it works. Maybe HE351W with 12 housing like on this car: http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/show...p?tid=6020
Thanks for the input guys. Sounds like I need to get a 7mm element pump to get my goal.
Do you know what bar or psi was he running at? I want low end power to ease the drive around town

It is post #9, don't know if the link will take you there.
Ok so let's say I go for a HE341VE and put my OM606 pump back, what should my cc be at to reach my goals?
