Fitting an OM606 Turbo into a RHD w114 (steering interference)
Hi all,
I could really do with some advice here.
I hear there are issues with the Turbo/exhaust interfering with the steering column in a Right Hand Drive W114.
How do I get around this issue? Has the interefering bits been rerouted without losing performance?
Any help appreciated. Also, do I assume that a normally aspirated OM605 or OM606 would fit without issue (apart from the front crossmember chops)
Warmest Regards
Udhi
Can't help with the /8 but other RHD cars like 116 and 123 take 60x just fine. You should get a new exhaust made when doing the swap regardless.
I had a 617A in my RHD 123 and the only issue was the air filter housing rubbing on a brake line at the master cylinder
Thank You mate. My concern is the wiggle room available to avoid the interference. I am not sure what exactly interferes and if it can br worked around.
Even a talented boy like Monstercrawlers had chosen a lhd to install the om606 in the UK.
Anyone? This is probably too simple and boring question for most of you here, but its seriously hamstringimg my dreams.
I can't help from direct experience but only option seems to be to create a new manifold to move everything out of the way. W114/5 is much narrower than W123, W126. Less room to get everything in. With regard to loss of performance, if manifold well designed, no sharp angles it should be a negligible difference. It's not like a naturally asparated petrol engine where manifold shape makes a bigger difference to fueling, as the fuel is injected and the air is wumped in by the turbo.
