So I have little time, but I have a nice wagon. Help me take the next step with my engine; what would/could you do with $1000 in improvements to my wagon? Help me spend it with your ideas/fabrications/parts... specifically looking at the forced induction system. Highly doubtful I will go with a supercharger route so concentrate on a turbo and all that's involved. Think of what I already have and give suggestions on easy cheaper ways to improve it. If it's that easy do it yourself and sell the idea/actual articles to me....

I would think turbo rebuild with a larger trim compressor wheel for more airflow at higher speeds. It seems that is the only thing other than getting a new turbo that you might be able to benefit from

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )
-1974 240D, FRESH PAINT!!!!!!

Excellent idea. What are the positives/negatives out of that? More flow at high end but less at low? Where will I find a new wheel? What new wheel would you suggest?

I would say an HX30 or HY35/HE341. It's a T3 flange so there's no silly adaptor plate. Also a larger intercooler, perhaps an air to water behind the headlight ala bgkast. And if you upgrade the turbo I would get a 3 inch exhaust made, the stock exhaust gives a 2-3 psi restriction with a stock pump, which is probably more with the amount of fuel you have.

Turbo - $300
Intercooler - $100
Piping/misc - $100
Exhaust - $300

1984 300D 4-speed ~200,000 miles
7.5mm M-pump, GT3582 turbo, F-Tune Performance intake/exhaust manifolds, A/A intercooler, 315 nozzles, Enlarged prechambers, Bosch 044 feed pump, Custom lightweight flywheel with 240mm clutch, Lowered, 17" AMG rims - 300 hp OM617 project
1985 300D 280,000 miles RIP
2001 F350 7.3 DP tuner, 4"exhaust, S&B intake

Like this one or this one? How much turbo lag would those have?

The first one but not the second.
With the HY35, it has a 9cm exhaust housing. Dieselboy uses that turbo and says it spools about 2800 rpm, but that's with stock elements. Should be less for you.
It's all about trade-offs, an HX30 has a 6cm exhaust housing which should spool around 2200-2400 but it will give you a little more backpressure in the upper rpms. Also has smaller compressor.
Anything would be better than stock.

Thank you Led-P. Please keep them coming folks...
What is the easiest way to install a bigger exhaust? Drop me some specifics- who makes a flex downpipe? What about an affordable alternative to exhaust/muffler shops which want to charge an arm and a leg for a system?
Who has a vnt set up they want to sell me that would do my pump and wagon right? I'd also like to get a H2O injection system to keep the inside clean- nothing super fancy.

I can't imagine making a larger diameter exhaust system being too difficult, especially if you can get long pipe, then it would just be a matter of putting in a couple elbows and the flange to bolt to the turbo, and the rest could just be one loooong straight piece going right out the back of the car

larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?

Will that fit in the engine bay? With a MA what else would be needed to control it? Is is not a bit too big? I'm not looking to make 400 HP.

I have a GT2256V I pulled last week from a 2002 Sprinter. Turns a little stiffly (i.e. doesn't spin freely) but there is neither axial nor side-to-side shaft play. Make me an offer.
This post was last modified: 04-15-2012, 11:32 AM by JustPassinThru.

Gone but not forgotten: two W123 sedans and two W124 wagons.
W124 1987 300TD wagon, for sale, $1000 (some assembly required).
